He's never won a fight in his life. Everytime he tried to fight in his career, he got knocked down and knocked out.
I don't know if there's anyone on the site who has an interest in the history and politics of the fight scene in the Ali days, but the clip below paints a stark picture of corruption at the top levels. Leon Muhammad primarily worked for Don King and had first interactions with movers and shakes of the time. The Hall of Fame inductee was a Captain in the Elijah Muhammad run Nation of Islam and an intermediary in many of the fight dealings. He's a bit hard to understand at times and as a 75 year old man isn't really into political correctness, but he possesses a deep knowledge of the game and times. The names mentioned range from President Kennedy through to the likes of Bob Arum, Lou Duva, Don King and Butch Lewis.
A piece of fight film from March 2015 has just emerged on twitter. And it has a lot of heads shaking. The fight was stopped in the first round after some brilliant defence by Raul Hinojosa. Was he an angry man or what? Probably one of the worst ref decisions you'll ever see.
More big news on the DAZN push into North America. Gennady Golovkin has signed a 3 year, 6 fight deal for a reputed US$100,000,000. In the middleweights alone, they now have Canelo, Golovkin, Jacobs and Andrade. DAZN Group executive chairman John Skipper has refused to comment on the rumours that Deonay Wilder and his company are chatting. Some are suggesting that Wilder may actually put pen to paper as soon as next week. It could be bullshit, but seeing that Anthony Joshua's bouts will be on DAZN, it might just happen. After all, there are huge amounts of money being thrown about at the moment. There's a real buying frenzy going on. Canelo signed for US$365,000,000. He has to go to the well 11 times for it, but I should imagine he won't be too worried. Less than a month ago,Tyson Fury inked a deal with Bob Arum's Top Rank for US$80,000,000.
And now comes the Wilder offer. According to reporter Mike Coppinger, Dazn's John Skipper has offered Deontay Wilder $100,000,000 for 3 fights. $20,000,000 for the Breazeale bout and 2 with Joshua at $40,000,000 per fight. An announcement is expected to made next Tuesday. Have Al Haymon and Deontay Wilder agreed or knocked it on the head?
Massive fight tomorrow and lucky for us being shown for free on itv4. Errol Spence Jr defends his Welterweight title against Mikey Garcia. Both unbeaten fighters and both considered amongst the world's best pound for pound fighters. Now for me I am stunned that Spence is an heavy favourite, as good as he is and I do rate him, Garcia is class with a capital 'C'. A four weight world champion which he has done with ease. I get that he's stepping up in weight again but 3/1 looks absolutely huge. Boxing in betting, you usually only find value in predicting a round but I think this is a steal. I'd have had Garcia favourite he's not far off Loma and Crawford for me in terms of ability so it has to have been priced up because of the rise in weights. I'd be interested to hear what Cyclonic and Dancingbraveforever think as they seem the main boxing fans on here
I've been a huge Mikey Garcia for ages Denny, and there's nothing I'd like see more than a Garcia win. Youtube has a heap of vids on life inside the family gym and I reckon I must have viewed most of them. It's a great place to source information. They've openly talk about the night they went to the Spence - Peterson clash at the beginning of last year. It was here that Mikey said he saw enough about Spence to believe he could beat the IBF Welterweight Champion. His trainer and brother Robert, a former world champion in his own right, along with their father Eduardo, were both very much against the fight. They tried to talk him out of the bout, but Mikey held sway. After viewing a lot of film, both brother and dad became convinced that Mikey was onto to something. They are now believers. And now for the first time in his career, Garcia is doing weights. After a lot of work with Victor Conte, Mikey returned a much bulked up man around the shoulders and upper arms. But he's said he's lost none of his speed. And he's going to need all the speed he can get against Spence. There are very few in the sport who do the fundamentals as well as Garcia. But one of the things he does lack, is the penchant for leading. Of late he's started to pick it up, but it's unlikely that Spence will be second cab off the rank for most of the fight. Spence will probably instigate most of the exchanges. And the champ has more that that going for him. He's a big welterweight. The Garcia camp have conceded that after rehydration, Mikey will be anywhere between 10 - 14 pounds lighter than Errol. He'll also be 3.5 inches shorter and 4 inches inferior in reach. And it has to remembered that Spence is a fully fledged 147 pounder, while Garcia has built up from 126. For all of that though, Garcia has certainly looked the better with their shirts off. There's quite a bit of chat about Spence looking drained. He does look gaunt. So who knows? Either way, it will be really interesting for the first 3-4 rounds when Mikey will be at his crispest. The second half of the fight is where the real questions will be answered. Bookies are the folk who drive the better cars, they get it right most of the time. I think Spence will win, but I'll be over the moon if Mikey call pull it off. I too want a Garcia win. Good luck if you take a punt Denny, I hope you get a collect mate.
It looks like Spence has had no problem with making weight. Spence 146.25 and Garcia 145.5. The gent holding the belt in the face off is the legendary Roberto Duran.
Outboxed every step. Was just too much to jump up that much in weight. Full credit to Garcia for giving it a go though, there are other welterweights out there who he could have challenged and beaten but he wanted the best. Spence called out Pacman after but I don't really see the point other than to have the name on his record. Manny is long past his best
What a horrible little scrotebag Kash Ali really is. All you have to do is stand up for 12 rounds and David Price will eventually gass out.
I don't know whether it's true or not, but according to the Ukrainian media source, Sport Arena, Wladimir Klitschko has agreed to a 92 million pound, three fight deal with DAZN. The 43 year old hasn't fought since his defeat at the hands of Anthony Joshua two years ago. His first fight against an as yet unnamed opponent is said to take place on May 25 in Kiev. With Wilder, Fury and Joshua tied to different promotional outfits, an early clash between any of the three, seems out of the question. But now with Klitschko and Joshua both in the DAZN camp, a clash looks on the cards. This needs to happen. Each of the three platforms are desperately searching for heavyweights to add to their books, but the half decent ones are thin on the ground. So for the time being, it's going to be Wilder versus a half chance, (Breazeale) Joshua versus a half chance, (Miller) and Fury versus a no chance. (Schwarz)
Boxing doesn't need a 43 old guy back on the scene. The heavyweight scene is so wrapped up in red tape and politics, that everyone will be past their best when the fights eventually get made. I wish to god they would have a Super 6 tournament. It has worked brilliantly so far on other weights.
The boxing forums are all a buzz about a bout in that took place in Poland a few days ago. The 25 year old Patryk Szymanski (19-1-0) fought the 35 year old Robert Talerek (22-13-2) in a right old war. Neither of two were large on talent, but they sure put it on the line.
