Damn,I miss the days of heavyweight boxing when you only had one title and one champion. I hark back to the warriors who fought in the golden age of heavyweight boxing in the 70's. Everyone took on everyone. Sometimes a couple of times, or even more! !
I watched the press conference. Typical black American sportsman ranting on about living in poverty, fighting for his brothers and sisters in Africa....blah blah blah blah. Guy comes across like a total prick. Joshua on the other hand did well to restrain himself from levelling the guy. Not a Joshua fan but I hope destroys this joker.
There are a couple of captivating fights taking place today at the O2 Arena in London. The main attraction, the IBO World Super Middleweight Title, features the grudge match between James "Chunky" DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr. These guys don't seem to like one another, and a loss to either is a major career set back. The general feeling is that at 33 years of age, the best days of DeGale might just be behind him, but as he's fought at a higher level that Eubank, who took a 12 round flogging from George Groves, he ( DeGale) still might have the wood on the younger man. An interesting sidelight to the bout revolves around the fact that Eubank Jr. has finally ditched his father as an adviser. So the young bloke has a lot on the line. But so too does DeGale who seems pretty intent on not having his career derailed. He's called Eubank a "deluded moron" and added, "It’s all dawned on him – he’s finished. I promise you, he will get a schooling." According to The Guardian, he also stated, while addressing Eubank. "I am going to come out and give it to you properly. You can’t box Chris." The other fight is the heavyweight clash between the power punching Joe Joyce and the former WBC World Heavyweight Champion, the now 39 year old, Bermane Stiverne. Richard Schaefer's Ringstar Sports are pulling out all stops to fast track the 33 year old Joyce who's had just the 7 professional bouts, winning all inside the distance. The man known as the Juggernaut stands 6' 6'' and has hands that hit like hammers. He looks a bit clunky, but all he wants to do is come forward and smash people. And it's doubtful that Stiverne can keep him away. Maybe in his prime Stiverne might have got the job done, but his first round pasting at the hands of Deontay Wilder was an absolute shocker. He was badly out of condition and was sent to the canvas three times before the ref said "That's all folks." And now he looks in even worse condition. He hasn't fought since that November 2017 mauling and has added and extra stone and a half to his already plentiful girth. One can't help but feel that he's being fed to a ravenous beast. This could be ugly.
I can't believe Eubank Jr is the betting favourite. They must be writing De Gale off as completely washed up
I think the first fight with Caleb Truax finished him off. He took a bit of a horrible beating that night. Yes he has won since, but I think he is a shadow of himself and he looks and sounds a bit punch-drunk.
I agree to some extent but surely a 50% DeGale still has too much ability for Eubank Jr. Both times he's faced proper boxers and the only two times he faced decent opposition he's looked like a lost child in the ring clueless as to what is happening.
I'm reluctantly picking Eubanks Jr to win this one. Dont get me wrong, I don't rate him at all. I just think Degale is a shot fighter.
Jeez, that was a painful experience to watch. Degale as expected was horrendous.Eubank was just slightly less terrible. For the love of god please put Eubank in with Callum Smith and finally finish his sham career.
You called it, DeGale a shadow of his former self, I thought he'd still have too much for the hype job but he let Eubank Jr fight the only way he knows how.
Well that was a horrible night of boxing. Imagine either paying at the door or for the view at home, for that ****e, and one of the main event men walked from the ring a world champion. Even the crowd gave it the raspberry. As for Joyce, the bubble has well and truly burst. Before the fight, his team were talking of him as a potential heavyweight world champion. Dunno know about that.
Joyce essentially beat a fat, shell of a human being for 8 rounds. Any of the top boys would have shifted him within 2. Joyce is simply too old and not nearly good enough.
Currently viewing the boxing on 2nd February from Ford Center at The Star, Frisco, Texas. First bout had a guy from Ghana challenging for a World Championship. Jeez, what a puncher...... Richard Commey! Try and catch this guy!
No,no no Kenny. He is a complete novice. Fights like he's in a school playground. Very poor defensively, telegraphs his punches, not a power puncher (technique all wrong), suspect chin. Someone with class (and a punch) will punch his lights out
Richard Commey was scheduled to fight Vasiliy Lomachenko on April 12 in Los Angeles. Commey was to pit his newly won IBF belt against Lomachenko's WBA and WBO straps, but because of a knuckle injury, Commey has had to pull out of the bout. The former WBA champion Anthony Crolla will now face Lomachenko on the same date and at the same place. 1-40 Lomachenko. 20-1 Crolla.
James "Chunky" DeGale has pulled the pin on his boxing career. He's readily admitted that he's not the fighter he once was. Injuries he's incurred along the way have taken a toll on both mind and body, he stated. He's had a good career, one he can be rightly proud of. He was the first English, Olympic Gold Medalist to win a professional world title. Along with his two IBF Super Middleweight Titles, he won the British Super Middleweight, European Super Middleweight, WBA International Super Middleweight and WBC Silver Super Middleweight Titles. All in all, a mighty fine effort.
It was only a short while back that the American pundits though the DAZN move into North America was doomed to failure. They now need a trowel to remove the egg from their faces. After DAZN gives Eddie Hearn a billion dollar war chest, he heads over to have a word with Golden Boy who manage Canelo. Next thing you know, Canelo, the biggest name in the sport, signs a US$365 million deal for 11 fights. I should imagine that other Golden Boy fighters will also regularly appear on the platform. Now with Matchroom's plethora of highly rank fighters and world champions, they've quickly become a power player in the USA. So who's the next big name on the DAZN list? Well the raging gossip doing the rounds at the moment centre around the name Wladimir Klitschko. I don't know how true it is, but the word is that the 42 year old Klitschko has been offered a US$40 million, 3 fight deal and is seriously thinking about putting pen to paper. Apparently he hasn't stopped training. It's most likely bull ****, but you never know.
