GUS Poyet insists Fabio Borini would be the ‘perfect’ signing for Sunderland, after confirming Sunderland have agreed a deal with Liverpool for the striker.

Poyet confirmed that the Black Cats have had a bid - believed to be £14m - accepted by Liverpool, and the club is now waiting to speak to the player.

“What I can say is that we have agreed [a deal] with Liverpool, we are waiting for correspondence and then we move on from there,” said Poyet, speaking after Sunderland’s 5-1 friendly win over Darlington 1883.

“It’s clear the impact Fabio had last season.

“And we are going to spend that amount of money on a player that we know how much he can give us.

“He would be perfect for us.”

The 23-year-old Italy international is expected on Wearside to discuss personal terms in the coming days but Poyet is unwilling to put a timescale on the deal.

He said: “It’s an ongoing thing.

“We have done the steps that we needed to do properly, and now we are waiting. We want to do things the right way.”

Borini scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Black Cats last term, including a strike in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley, derby goals home and away against Newcastle United and four goals in five games as Sunderland pulled off their Great Escape.

His performances won him plenty of friends at Sunderland, and he was voted the club’s Young Player of the Year at the end of the season.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers also confirmed this afternoon that a deal has been struck, although Borini played just over an hour for the Reds this afternoon in their 2-1 friendly win over Preston North End at Deepdale.

Rodgers said: “He spent a really successful period with Sunderland last year, and it’s obviously a fantastic club.

“They’ve offered to buy Fabio and that’s where it’s at.

“There is an agreement between the two clubs, but nothing is agreed with the player as of yet.

“So at the moment he’s still very much a Liverpool player, but when that changes I’m sure you’ll be among the first to know.”

I bet you wish they were true.

By the skin of your teeth you survived. My word do you need that 14 million pound man next season. Enjoy.

Ps: you boys really do live on the internet. Within 2 minutes a response, some other douche already wondering why I don't respond within a few hours.

Fabio Borini does not want to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis, despite the Reds having agreed a fee to sell him to Sunderland.

The Black Cats have offered £12m plus a further £2m in bonus payments to sign the former Roma man, who spent last term on loan from Liverpool at the Stadium of Light.

With Liverpool moving to complete the signing of Loic Remy from QPR, the Reds are aiming to offload Borini, a move which would not just finance Remy's arrival, but also present them with a profit of between £4m and £6m.

However, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Borini does not want to leave Liverpool on a permanent basis.

The forward has not yet been personally contacted by Sunderland and has not signalled that he is willing to join Gus Poyet's men.

It remains to be seen just how hard Borini will fight to remain at Anfield and whether he will reject the chance to join Sunderland, with the knowledge Remy's arrival would push him further down the Liverpool pecking order.

Borini has been hoping for a chance to impress Reds boss Brendan Rodgers in 2014/15.

Fnar!

We talked about this yesterday. Geezus. Lay off the drink already, at least for a day...or TWO.

In simple terms mate.

We know £14million is a bit rich, as it transpires, it is £8.9 million rising to £14million IF Borini hits certain triggers for the lads.

Now, £8.9 million is still a little rich up front, but to pay £14million Fabio will be worth at least that figure for resale. Probably, given his age and that's he's Italian, a fair bit more.

End of story.

But is it really rich by this window's standard?
Borini, 3 years left on his contract. 8.9m
Snodgrass, 1 year left on contract. 7m

Borini is three years younger too.

Could be a lot worse than a 9m outlay imo.

The lad's an Italian international and a proven scorer in the Premier League .. if Gus is happy to pay what's needed I'm very happy if he comes.
