For a long time Gent have been considered as one of the ‘big five’ of the Belgian football scene along with Anderlecht, Standard, Club Brugge and Genk but while those four prosper, Gent have only floundered. Moving through managers at an unseemly pace it is there, not in the rosy looking stats, we find our narrative.
Trond Sollied was manager heading into the start of last season but his third spell in charge soon began to unravel and he left in October 2012. Manu Ferrera took over as interim coach but it wasn’t long before Bob Peeters was put in charge, sparking some interesting comments over the appointment.
There is no doubt that Bob Peeters is a likeable coach and it may be his amiable nature overshadows his limited nature as a coach. That he took over as manager of one of the biggest clubs in Belgium, having just come off the back of essentially consigning Cercle Brugge to a relegation play off was somewhat bemusing. In contrast though his good spell at Cercle should be remembered fondly as he gave the club some good times, but the situation he left the club in seemed to juxtapose with his new, high profile job.
It’s all very good in hindsight though. Just over two months in charge and his reign was cut short, much to the relief of the fans. Peeters achieved only one win with his side, a penalty shoot out victory over Lokeren in the cup and picked up just four points, pretty much ensuring that a new manager could only improve the side.

Agent Bob only played 22 games for us (20 too many)
Incidently CAFC phoned today to ask why I hadn't renewed my season ticket. Advised them because the football was cack & from what I've seen since the season ended next season will be even worse. I have never wanted to be so wrong in all my life.
I had a similar voicemail left from a lady on Friday, havent called back yet.
I sent an email to Ben Kensell venting my frustrations and how these would have an affect on the commercial figures by which he is no doubt judged. I wasnt expecting this email to be productive in the slightest, but was so frustrated with decisions being made a club just felt the need to tell somebody! To his credit, Ben called me back and left a message. We are currently playing a very long winded game of phone tennis.
Agree, and no doubt the club will hide behind FFP, but in reality this is what you get when you have a person in charge whose prime objective has little to do with glory on the pitch.....I e-mailed B.K about the way the club mis handled the Riga departure, and have had no reply. I regret stumping up for new STs, as the club's attitude towards customer service is worse than that of the local 99p shop. I am actually looking forward more to the away games next season. I get the impression that the club 'behind the scenes' is being run on a shoestring.
I can just about handle this if it's a short-term project, ie get us into the black then "pass on the baton" as TJ & MS put it. But even that is pretty risky; if JR had done as he was told and played the Eurotrash every week we'd playing be in L1 next season.Agree, and no doubt the club will hide behind FFP, but in reality this is what you get when you have a person in charge whose prime objective has little to do with glory on the pitch.....

It could be relatively short term since you wont see clubs paying money for graduates of a league 2 or conference league academy or parents putting their progeny into one. The academy is dependent upon the quality and performance of the first team so if one gets screwed the other wont generate the money either. In some respects a fall into league 1 at the end of the season could deliver lasting damage but could also see the back of R2D2.I think that's the best way to look at it, but I don't think he's here for the short term..? The money for Roley is with the future academy stars, and he can sit on them until they reach their full market value, which suggests Roley is happy to stay around a while yet.. Murray told us as much in the takeover introduction....
It could benefit our team in the short term, but personally I can't see any long term success with this model, especially if the network can't provide quality players to go with our youth...
The first team will have players from the academy... It's Roley's way, and I doubt we would be talking so much about late contracts regarding certain players if he'd been here earlier...It could be relatively short term since you wont see clubs paying money for graduates of a league 2 or conference league academy or parents putting their progeny into one. Precisely, what would be the point of him investing money into the academy, and then not get this fundamental part of it correct...6 months is enough time to sort out a few academy player contracts. he should be good at getting them done, he owns 5 or 6 clubs
