Played 25 games for the Scum and at 40, only a few months older than me, is meant to be our new boss. Belgian press is full of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Peeters
Belgian coach, 40 years old, each striker (which you may remember as a big lump with no talent at the Scum for three seasons) is supposedly our new coach. I had never heard of Riga but he had experience, this smacks of a gamble and of getting in a man that RD thinks can be manipulated.
It is everywhere on Twitter, the Belgian journalists that first mentioned Riga's name and our in house signings are all saying it.
All managers are a gamble, so who knows..? The importance of any manager is vastly overrated once the squad is set, but there lies our problem, our squad is wobblier than a jelly on a spacehopper, so it's all about the signings for me, who we keep & get in... I expected nothing more than a Roley yes man, and on the face of it that's what we're going to get... Roley has promised to help build a better squad, but frankly if we get anything like the January transfer activity, no manager has much of a chance...
Wow, why oh why.. This guy must of been selected because of the belgian link, he will be familiar with the belgian league and who RD wants to send over, oh dear..............
A very, very poor appointment in my opinion. Have a look at his CV and by all means disagree with me. A cheap foreign journeyman coach/ manager which basically points to cheap foreign journeymen players following him in. Seen the Tweet saying Riga declines to stay under that set up. All I can say is that Bob Peeters ain't going to get a honeymoon at Charlton!
Strange that JR wanted the job, yet didn't get it. I wouldn't have minded had we appointed an established Championship manager with a good pedigree, but to go for the unknown just smacks of stupidity.
It is all over the Belgian press that Bob Peeters will become the new Charlton Manager. If this is true I am gutted that Riga, for reasons unknown, did not get the job. I will wait for the reasons given why Riga did not get the job before commenting further.
Why not comment now? We have replaced a credible & popular Championship standard manager with a Belgian Terry Hurlock.
RD told Riga, in much the same style that Gold and Sullivan have told Big Sam, that Riga has to devote all of his time to the club if he signs on; meaning Riga must stop his part time line in being a Leslie Nielsen tribute act. Riga reportedly said 'Don't call me Shirley' before running out before RD could take back his club suit and tie. Oh yes, I'm ITK too you know... Here's some CCTV of when Katrien went into the loft to find Riga's contract offer.
My thoughts entirely. Back to Square One. Also points only one way in terms of player recruitment this summer. "We've got a team full of Thurams, a team full of Thurams...."
Think that Riga said nice stuff but was waiting to see what was offered by us and others, rumours of a return to Milan's coaching set up on Twitter.
I think Nick touched on it on another thread - Riga probably told RD that this project would need a fair amount of investment and from then on they were no longer on the same page.
