I will not comment because I do not know the reason why Riga did not get the job. IE whether he was offered the job and turned it down. Without knowing the facts I will give you a knee jerk reaction that I am very unhappy with it.
That's precisely how I see it... How many of Roley's player's were used for the crucial Watford game... New manager has to be a yes man, and Riga wasn't shaping up as one of them...
Yeah, echo that. If you want to group potential managers into 'those we wanted' with Jose first in line and 'rubbish appointments we feared', this guy is in group two. Early days, but if this is an indication of what summer holds, gawd 'elp us.
So let's be completely hypothetical here. If it is a point about having to play the network players and what we have at our disposal, will this be how we line up: Pope Solly/Wilson - Wood/Loan - Gomez/Loan - Wiggins Wilson/Loan - Cousins - JJ - Harriott Polish Pete - Church
I have read through Peeter's CV three times now, and I defy anyone to tell me how he qualifies on merit to be Charlton coach ? A couple of well meaning Belgian fans have posted "he is a really nice guy" and "he beat Anderlecht once" but sorry, not interested. It is starting to feel as though Charlton under RD has become a giant footballing recycling bin. What is the point of people doing well (Riga) if they instantly get moved on? If Peeters is any good, he will be moved onto Standard Liege next summer anyway. Our summer player recruitment campaign fills me with horror now...
The main thing Roley looks for is how many nodding puppets he can surround himself with, because this whole network thing really doesn't leave room for much else...
Suddenly MS and TJ seem to be paragons of conservatism and stability. Seriously, are we much worse off?
Sounds like he works well with young players, according to the Belgian media, so with our youth policy it makes sense to RD.
Let's stay calm. Many of the arguments being made now were the same as when Riga was introduced; and yet now 2 months later we're devastated that he might not be staying. In pure footballing terms (ie ignoring the internal CAFC going ons) I can't see much difference between Bob Peeters and Chris Powell when he was initially appointed. Although as a general rule I distrust anyone with a first name for a surname (Elton John and Ben Elton for example).
I heard that he has worked well and exceeded expectations, because he's had to work without any quality players... Hope this isn't telling us something...
How many British, Championship standard players do you think we will sign this summer? (my guess is somewhere between 0 and 0.1)
