Nervous as a male kitten visiting the vet for "that" op, but although I am not running around the house screaming "Yippee we have got Bob Peeters as manager!", I will back him and his team whilst he is employed by my club. It was the same with Riga and it will be the same with any manager that has however temporary charge of CAFC. Riga was far better than I hoped, hopefully Belgian Bob will be too.
Huddersfield Town are signing Joe Murphy and Craig Cathcart. Ipswich & Bolton have both signed players in the last week. The recruitment of Peeters - if it happens - is nothing less than a f**king joke. Has anyone else spoken to mates who are fans of other clubs in recent days? I have. Charlton are becoming a laughing stock. No players & no manager. Worse than that, zero prospect of signing any British players that our fans can feel an affinity with, every chance that Poyet will leave, and a fat Belgian Phil Mitchell lookalike who is not good enough for CAFC in a million years, about to take over. Some of the Walter Mitty's will reply "look on the bright side", the sort of glib, unthinking soundbite that flourished under New Labour. Do the events of the last two weeks make it more or less likely that Diego Poyet will stay next season?
Agree, would of liked Riga to stay did a gr8 job, but if that's not going to happen and bob arrives will need to give him a chance before doom and gloom mongers on here start slagging him off. Didn't rolly pay quite a bit for polish pete, and he wasn't from the network.
RD's football decisions seem pretty hit-and-miss. Belgian Bob might be a good manager might not, I guess we'll find out in July and August. We don't know whether or not RD has learned anything from the debacle of the January Eurotrash recommended by the Fantastic European Scouting Network (FESN). If he has, then whose judgement will he rely on when it comes to bringing in new players? I can't see that BB has got the job because he's agreed to let RD pick the team from FESN players. Managers want to win games, and will always pick what they consider to be the strongest team, even pardew eventually decided to play his strongest team. So I don't see BB as a nodding dog; if PP is as bad as everyone says no manager will play him. Who knows what our future is- we're in unknown territory. I don't like the network, but the alternative was administration, and the club will only succeed if everyone is pulling in the same direction, whatever that is.
he was scouted using the network. which by all means doesnt say a great deal as to what direction we're going - picking up someone not good enough for our u21s
I was talking to someone at Wentworth on Saturday, and the clubs comments about offering all the players not on the released list new contracts isn't apparently true. Poyet has been, but on similar terms which is to ensure the club get a developmental fee. Players are due back from holiday this week (not to work), so things should start to become clearer by Friday you hope.
So we get £500,000 for Poyet without even putting up a fight to keep him? Crazy- he's worth so much more than when he signed his previous contract.
Will people stop saying this.... IT IS NOT TRUE!... the biggest loser from administration would have been Cash so why would he have put the club into administration.... the delay in finding a buyer was due to the previous owners inflated valuation... if the Douch had not bought Charlton at £14m then somebody else would have done at £10m or £8m or £6m
I don't think administration was imminent, assets would have been sold before it came to that, but it was clear no money was to be pumped in other than running costs. As much as it might sound like a cop out, we now just have to see what RD plans for us. Peeters is near enough a done deal, and should we lose several of the out of contract players (which seems likely, especially since the club publicly stated they had been offered contracts) then he needs to put his hands in his pockets. League rules don't permit him to have a team full of loans, so he will need to spend if we are to become competitive (and I don't believe he would have bought us to see us dwindle). For a ''successful businessman'', he doesn't half make odd decisions though. He seems to make things harder than it needs to be.
The "negative speculation" will only end when RD gets his chequebook out, and reveals his hand in the summer transfer market. At the moment CAFC is proving an excellent recruiting agent for UKIP, and provides daily evidence of just why we must pull out of the loathsome EU (I was long ago persuaded). The free movent of workers in effect became the free movement of jobseekers. We now see this at Charlton under RD. Nobody with a hole in their backside is seriously suggesting that the likes of Polish Pete, Koc and Nego should be here taking the place of young British footballers, are they?
I couldn't give a toss what nationality they are, I just want them to be good players, which so far hasn't been the case...
I take the view that we also have to consider the long term welfare of the game in England, and indigenous players development is blocked under the RD system by Euro tat. I would introduce criteria and a threshold before they can be employed by Charlton or other Championship clubs.
But Roley has already stated that he likes his clubs to play with 4-6 home-grown players... He made a point of it in his first interview, when talking of SL success... I've been hoping for Championship quality signings because the standard of player dumped on us by Roley in January was well short of it, but if we get network players that can cut the mustard at this level, I'll be be more than happy... The problem for me is, I don't see this happening...
It will be interesting to see if he splits the money from his SL player sales, or whether he keeps it in Belgium.
RD's was the only offer which S&J received, apart from the anonymous consortium which was refused by the FA. No-one else wanted us.
I am not sure that is true. Apparently, the club had offers all season long, but were not seriously pursued as Jimi wanted to take the club a little further (maybe for his own personal gain-maybe for the good of the club) We will never know. What I have heard is that Jimi and Slats felt that they would lose the fans forever, if they sacked the inefficient Powell before xmas and decided that given the fractious relationship that existed as a result of the efforts of a handful of fans, the time for selling the club was opportune. Its another example of this club 'to be careful what it wishes for'
S&J themselves said when they sold up that RD's was the only solid offer they received. There were plenty of rumours of other interested parties, but only RD made an offer.
