ONLY £5.5m?!

You haven't been following the tigers very long have you?

Remember Jimmy Bullard? Seyi Olofinjana? Kamel Ghilas?

It's also a myth about the summer budget, the season budget was widely publicised as being £15m which we'd spent before the Long saga. The Long deal must have been a bonus pot from AA himself.

Of course I remember them. I also remember that the TV income for this season far out-strips the revenue we received in those seasons. If we can't sell them then we have a problem, but I guarantee that either A) they'll have relegation clauses because we'd be daft not to have them, and they'd be daft not to want them or B) they would stay, and both would tear up the Championship and see us go straight back up.

He's better with words than Jelavic haha. Good signing, hopefully he bangs a few in.

Being a native english speaker probably helps
And jelavic has the arrogance to him like I said before (a good aspect)

Welcome aboard!

Loved it when Jela brushed off any notion of pressure about scoring goals, that's the sort of confidence needed.

Exactly, and when he gets the first goal, he will skyrocket with confidence, us fans will love him and he will love us

People going about IF we're relegated, IF we're relegated Long only costs us 5.5m and Jelavic the same probably. Of that 11m, we're still covered by the fact that 6.5 of that was in the summer budget, which means that we're really out of pocket 4.5, which we could easily recoup from the sale of someone like Davies.

My slight pessimism is nothing whatsoever to do with the fees paid, it's the contracts given. As I said earlier, if Long has continuoulsy turned down WBA's offers and his missus didnt want to move in an ideal world, then how much must we be paying him? If it's anywhere near 50k for 3 and a half years then it frankly scares me ****less.

In saying all that why do I care? I wont be supporting us after this summer.

I'm not in favour of spending money we cant afford. Do you seriously think Jelavic and Long will have signed contracts with relegation wage reduction clauses? If we go down during the duratioon of their contracts we're simply ****ed and I dont feel we've learned anything from last time.

I've got a mortgage to pay and if all my clients left I wouldn't be able to pay my mortgage and I'd have to sell my house. I've just bought a printer for £1,000 but should I have saved the money for food in case all my clients left?

My attitude is that sensible investment is the best way to be successful especially in football. There's nothing wrong with taking reasonable risks. Can you name one successful football club who hasn't taken risks?

Well done to all for making this happen, great signing IMHO. The fact that a lot of other higher placed clubs fans who will have seen Long play against their team are suggesting he is exactly the sort of player they should have signed, endorses the fact this is a great signing.

I think the fans will love Long for different reasons. When I watch him, he doesn't necessarily bang the goals in. But he never stops running, constantly putting defenders under pressure and putting himself about. Coupled with pace and being surprisingly good in the air, him and Jelavic should be a good partnership.
