CALL THE COPS - I would have liked to have seen this one stay over hurdles as I think he would have held a live chance in the World Hurdle. Apparently the plan is to go chasing though so who am I to argue with 'The Needle'?! Obviously chasing is a different kettle of fish but I'm of the belief that this one will feature prominently in the staying novice chase division this season.

I'm also really looking forward to pretty much backing anything Venetia Williams puts out (she's a guilty pleasure of mine!!), seeing if CONEYGREE can swat away the challengers, the monster that is FAUGHEEN break the heart of every beast it competes with and whether Mr Henderson has used his 'Magic hands' to good effect on MY TENT OR YOURS - perhaps SBC can shed some light?!

I can't wait until the season really kicks into gear!!

Don’t forget that in a lot of instances it is the owners, or there representatives, who will decide where a horse goes rather than the actual trainer who will only advise – that is certainly the case regarding the McManus horses with ultimately his ‘racing manager’ deciding the vast majority of things.

A significant number of those bookie chappies are now no longer quoting any odds whatsoever re Mr Henderson’s My Tent for either the 2016 Champion Hurdle or Arkle. Going on this it would appear he faces an uphill struggle to get on the racecourse this term and no way can he be viewed as an ante-post proposition because of this uncertainty.

I was a huge fan of Call The Cops last term and his wins at Donny and at the Cheltenham Festival certainly bring a smile to my visage. However, enthusiasm re him is tempered somewhat as over the summer his owners were very, very keen to sell him – as indeed they did for £220,000. Did they cash in because they thought he had ‘peaked’???

Maybe Barney but I always wonder why anyone sells anything

First things first, theres no chance she goes novice chasing now after 3 seasons hurdling. It's a given she won't be at this stage. This debate happened 12 months when it was decided she'd stay hurdling as after her World Hurdle defeat to MOT, they (rightfully I'd suggest) felt she wouldn't be good enough to win a Gold Cup. Therefore they scrapped the chasing career there and then, and I can see why. You say she should be given the chance, how do we know she wasn't tried at home, we don't. She wasn't the best of hurdlers. Probably worth considering we've seen a few good hurdlers ruined by going chasing so thats something worth bearing in mind too.

I dont think the World Hurdle is a 'complete waste of talent'. I'm not sure how many mares have won it. I'd accept the Mares Hurdle as being so, but again I aint paying the bills, so frankly what right have I to say where she runs?!

You say send her to the Arkle. If I'm Rich Ricci why would I, when I can win that easily with Douvan. Same for the Champion. Theres little logic to going them routes. Two horses wont win the one race, why not win a different one if you can?

Plenty said Vautour HAD to go Arkle last year. Thank god he didn't, or we'd not have had that sublime JLT performance.

Ricci puts a huge investment into the game. You want 'good racing'. Dont you get that from Vautour, Faugheen etc? The least he should be given is the respect to choose where he runs his horses. Perhaps people should get their chequebooks out and buy these horses, then you'd have earned the right to run them as you like!

I think Annie Power v any of Faugheen, Douvan, or Vautour would be spectacular racing and a true sporting gesture by an owner.

I think Annie Power v Inferior mares is a bit pointless when you are that far ahead of your sex. But if it's eggs in baskets the owner wants, that's what the owner gets.

me personally if I have two horses capable of winning a proper classic race like a Champion Hurdle or Arkle or a Gold Cup or whatever it is, then they would race one another. But that's only my thoughts and as I'm not a multi millionaire, that's all they will be.

Never mind Rich Ricci and his abundance of riches, are we going to see Black Hercules jump a fence this winter? Could be a monster <ok>

Will be interesting to see a few of Wylies actually Oddy. He has a nice enough string under the care of Mullins this year.

A couple that I'd like to ask about are Dynaste and L'ami Serge. Also Irish Cavalier and Champaigne Fever. I realise that it is far too early to know where they will be all aimed for but trying to second guess adds to the excitement of the Cheltenham build up.

I have decided I'm gonna do £10 a month on the following:
Faugheen - Champion Hurdle
Douvan - Arkle
Annie Power - Mares Hurdle
Un De Sceaux - Champion Chase
Vautor - Cheltenham Gold Cup
Pays about 199/1 currently

Id be surprised if Vautour stayed 3m3, Don Cossack showed last years Gold Cup form up but hes never done it at Cheltenham so Don Poli is the one for me.

But then surely you'd say the RSA form was shown up by Don Poli's running at Punchestown? Or are you forgiving his run but not the 2 horses who ran themselves legless in the war of attrition that was the Gold Cup???

The Gold Cup was a glorified handicap last season, the novices looked a different class and one of them even won the big race, the RSA form isnt worth much on paper but the winner looks a good stayer, his run at Punchestown was obviously too bad to be true.

I love it when people write such tosh. The Gold Cup was run with the best horses available, and if that was a glorified handicap, so were all the staying races at Punchestown, Aintree, Kempton and Haydock. Then again, its easy to put a race down if its to emphasise your views/bets/feelings.

just going to say similar nass--der kaiser pocket talkin me thinks.....they all carried equal weight and therefore the best horse on the day won....dont forget how he won as well--made all !

I know it was the best horses available but what has that got to do with the quality of the race, the staying division has been rank rotten since the great ones retired, Denman, Kauto, Neptune, Imperial Commander then a young Long Run, different class from the shower of handicappers that have been contesting the Gold Cup the last few years, Bobs Worth was a good winner but he never replicated it. Thankfully some nice novices with potential have come along because the division needed it badly.

what the **** are you rabbling about pocket talk? when did I say the best horse didnt win? what a random statement

i was crabbing the form for months before the race, the result is irrelevant, if the 2nd or 3rd had won I wouldnt have liked the result

there was about 5 lengths between 9 horses 3 out last year, I cant even remember what I backed in the race, I remember saying the novices were different class from those handicappers all season though

Brilliant result, this years novices are a different class.

oh dear, look at me not liking the result <doh>

The 3 mile novice chasers are a different class to the current Gold Cup handicap division, Bobs Worth and Conti aside, but Bob is past his best and Conti isnt really a Gold Cup horse.

Conygree and Don Poli definitely, Kings Palace still has to prove it in a proper race, hope all 3 run in the RSA and it will be a better race than the Gold Cup. Would be madness to run Conygree in the GC this year I think, he will be a lightly raced 9yo going for it next season which should be ideal.

Those 3 novices can be backed at 20/1, 25/1, 25/1 for 2016, one of them wins it.

<laugh> madness right enough, the 25s for this year looks not bad though
