I grew up in the 70's. We played footie, Cricket and Rounders on any decent sized green, but they all end up with a no ball games sign.
(I think) that`s why you don`t see groups of kids out playing and keeping healthy.
So you can partly blame the councils and moaning minnies.
Go back a decade to the 1960's and I was doing exactly the same. Even with the exact same sports. I ended up playing on the school football team for three years, as the backstop [catcher in baseball] and captain of my school rounders team, for two years, and as a batsman in school cricket team for a year. It's because we had a green right in front of our house and me and my mates would just play and play, mainly at football, but the other sports as well. We eventually moved near the Sports Centre, where I incidentally moved back to about 11 years ago. The depressing thing was, the huge green that we had in front of our old house had a big estate for OAPs built on it. Now I'n not knocking OAPs requirements, but there were plenty of brown field sites around back then. But no, SCC decided to cut off the kids supply of safe places to run around on instead.
