Go back a decade to the 1960's and I was doing exactly the same. Even with the exact same sports. I ended up playing on the school football team for three years, as the backstop [catcher in baseball] and captain of my school rounders team, for two years, and as a batsman in school cricket team for a year. It's because we had a green right in front of our house and me and my mates would just play and play, mainly at football, but the other sports as well. We eventually moved near the Sports Centre, where I incidentally moved back to about 11 years ago. The depressing thing was, the huge green that we had in front of our old house had a big estate for OAPs built on it. Now I'n not knocking OAPs requirements, but there were plenty of brown field sites around back then. But no, SCC decided to cut off the kids supply of safe places to run around on instead.

I know. I still go on GTA and **** around like hijacking planes and generally pissing off the police but it gets boring fairly quickly. :(

Very much enjoyed the GTA single player, thought the multiplayer might be the one to coax me into renewing the old XBL membership but from what I've heard and seen from my mates it's really not worth it and not just because of the server ****-ups. Disappointing.

Just played two games of Pro-Evo in League Mode. Middlesbrough were dead easy, but Birmingham City were bringing my players down left, right and centre, and getting away with it too. In contrast, if so much as pretended to tackle there was a pheeep! There must have been some pushing there.., from commentator** Peter Brackley.

**really annoying when I make innocent tackles and I have to hear that over and over again.

Oh I beat them 4-1 and 4-2, but my fingers were hurting after the second match. ;)

Unsurprisingly, everything in the game seems to be designed to tempt people into buying GTA$. I'd hope Rockstar would be better than that, but there you go.

Indeed, as an innocent accompaniment kind of 'Hey, you don't need this, but if you want to spend a few quid to get some extra cool ****, go ahead!', I would have no problem with them introducing microtransactions, however when everything in the game is locked behind a paywall and the whole experience is an insurmountable grind, I can't overlook how suspicious it is them bringing that in even from a company I love as much as Rockstar. As it is from what I've seen and what little I've played it's like a half-finished free-to-play in early beta stages except it's wedged onto the back of a full-price single player game and touted as a revolutionary experience. I know they're going to actively be adding a lot free updates inevitably by some big DLC's and hopefully they can unlock the potential for awesome gameplay experience that is there because at the moment for me they have jumped the shark.

Let's hope so. My experience is soured by the missions being mostly crap (they're all basically the same and very basic), and as I mentioned before, the money thing - it's really hard (for me and the people I know, at least) to make decent money. The cops are far stronger/better at chasing than online, and every time you get killed it takes a good couple of thousand dollars - which is about how much you'd make from robbing a store, one of the most convenient ways to make money. It just makes the whole thing a waste of time, but hey, the better the cops are, the more money you lose, which means the more frustrated you get and theoretically more likely to shell out for dollars.

I wish there was a mode like the free roam last year. A big old map with no cops or anything, just to dick about in. We had hours of fun. :(

Peter Brackley! Probably the best thing about PES, he's brilliant. "He's missed it by a lick of paint!"

Yeah in my last post I typed out another three lines of how all it needed was a simple free roam experience with all the guns, cars and whatever else you can would want for freely available with a basic character leveling system and some dumb game modes like Cops and Robbers and all that jazz thrown in for variety but I could already feel it getting a bit rant-y so curtailed myself haha. Also with a proper bloody game lobby system where you can select what you want to play instead of the ****ing in-game phone navigation malarkey 'Oh I want to do a mission, guess I'll wait for some NPC to randomly text me with one I've already completed twice and is basically going to be one of two formats'. I only played the game for about two hours but even in that time I was immensely annoyed by that... What was I saying about getting rant-y...? <laugh>

The world and the gameplay stand up on their own to create excellent experiences without needing to try and turn it into a MMORPG. Honestly I'm more likely to buy XBL to play GTA IV than I am V as things stand, which is a shame as I really enjoyed the single player and was looking forward to saddling back up on to some multiplayer for the first time in ages but instead it's left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth when I think about the game.

Yeah, I completely agree. It could be so much fun, the GTA world is so good that just more freedom would be brilliant. The option to turn off ****ing cops, seriously, it's not hard. The phone system is really dumb though. Spend a few minutes getting murdered by other players until you get a text to collect a car, jesus.

I need to find GTA IV again because I've got so many happy memories about the online mode. From going all out to stop people to see the Heart of Liberty for the first time, to seeing which car would make people fly furthest from the roof of a multi storey car park. I hardly got anywhere into the offline mode because I just didn't enjoy it, whereas I loved GTA V. Let's just get Rockstar to stick GTA IV online into GTA V and everyone's happy.

[NSFW]Grrr. Better than killing Michael, but still. I went back and played the one where you kill Trevor, I accidentally shot the petrol rather than him which burnt him alive, that was pretty disturbing.[/NSFW]

Harry Redknapp and Martin Samuel... Dream Team right there.

[NSFW] Yeah I went back and tried both options, thought they were both naff gameplay-wise (Showdown with target/Franklin splutters out he's going to kill them and lets them get away instead of just shooting them in the head/Car chase where it's impossible to actually get them/Final Showdown/Scripted Kill... Meh), but yeah I also burned Trev alive... On purpose... :emoticon-0131-angel [/NSFW]

[NSFW]I think the petrol burns him no matter where you shoot, I'm pretty sure I shot him the head and then he went up in flames. What happens in C?[/NSFW]

[NSFW] Indeed, but the him being alive is the key part... Him writhing around in agony and screaming was slightly haunting to say the least. In C you pretty much deal with Merryweather, Devin Weston, the FIB ****ers and all the problems in short succession and then the game ends with the three of them staring off into a lovely sunset and thinking about their future. Made me feel all warm and cuddly. [/NSFW]

[NSFW]C was good. You go visit Lester (I dunno if this happens in A and B, when I replayed them it starts with Franklin meeting them in a car park) and tell him what's going on. He comes up with some little plan of luring FIB guys and Merryweather guys to a forgery by telling them that the gold is being melted down there - they attack in number, Franklin, Michael and Trevor kill them all with the help of Lamar. After that, they get their list of people they need to silence to have an easy life and go after one each - Trevor goes after Steve Haines from the FIB for Michael (he's on the pier, you snipe him while he's on the ferris wheel), Franklin goes after Cheng for Trevor (he's at a hotel, you can probably car chase him but I just whipped my grenade launcher out) and Michael goes after Stretch for Franklin (I'm not sure why really, he's just a pain in the arse and someone was needed as a nemesis for Franklin - you just kill him on the street). After they're all taken care of, the three go after Devin Weston. It was Trevor for me, because he was the first I used to take down one of the three, I assume that can change but yeah - you shoot through a few Merryweather guards at his house, then kidnap him and take him to a cliff. You meet Michael and Franklin there, talk some **** to Devin while he's in a car boot, then the guys all heave the car over the cliff with Devin inside. The three then share some banter, a bit of tension between Trevor and Michael but all is okay really, they agree to get on with life as dysfunctional, terribly matched friends. Franklin jumps on his bike off into the sunset, Michael into his car off into the sunset, and Trevor stumbles about a bit looking confused. It's a happy ending.[/nsfw]
