If I remember my previous reading correctly, we and France wanted to send troops to help out in Finland, but Sweden wouldn't allow us to pass through their land. That was probably bloody annoying for us and Finland, but Sweden were so determined to remain neutral that they would outright refuse to help us in the slightest. Probably saved them from invasion, so you can see why they did it.
Norway actually took a stand against the Germans, if I recall, and lasted a couple of weeks.
What I find odd is that people are complaining about the Winter Olympics being held in Russia due to Putin's homophobia, but the same isn't being done for the 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar for its views on women, gays, etc. I'm guessing alcohol is going to be banned in stadiums, how will people cope?!
Nepal has claimed that 70 Nepalese workers have died on construction sites in Qatar since the beginning of 2012. A Guardian article estimated 4000 migrant workers will have died by the start of the tournament if the rate continues.
I'm not an expert on WW2, but the US always go on about how they saved us in the war, even though they were busy most of the time fighting Japan. The key was Russia switching sides after Hitler's invasion (no idea why he did that). Victory in Europe was a good five months before Japan surrendered.
For sure. The US can definitely be proud of their part in D-day and the campaign from there to Berlin, but when Russia turns blue on that map everything changes.
You cannot even suggest limitations on magazine sizes in the States without being compared to Hitler. The Founding Fathers would want me to have this .50 cal machine gun, dammit!
