The thread on /r/unitedkingdom is far more reasonable. I can't stand seeing a bunch of American teenage neckbeards talking like they know what it's like in other countries. Most of them know nothing outside of their little bubble of some suburb in Ohio. The amount of people who have never been to Europe, yet feel they know enough to claim that Europe is being "invaded" by Muslims is ridiculous.
Got to agree. The US is in large parts incredibly intolerant of religion, race, sexuality and politics. UK is streets ahead in that regard.
Don't kid yourself that the EDL and UKIP are mainstream. They'd like you to believe it, but they're a long way from standing the slightest chance of forming a government. On the other hand, the Republican party is full of nutjobs who stand a real chance of having their way. We don't have the Tea Party or all those libertarian morons.

Yeah, this. You have members of Congress who fully believe that the government has been taken over from the inside by the Muslim Brotherhood. Like Louie Gohmert, who sits on the House subcommittee that deals with Homeland Security. And Michele Bachmann, who sits on the House subcommittee that deals with intelligence matters.
