A paper's bias only matters when it doesn't agree with yours. There is no such thing as a neutral person or a neutral paper.

That's why if there is a referendum on EU membership, if I vote, I may do some research. And if I do research, I don't think I'll utilise a single newspaper as part of the research process. Academics all the way.

It matters when they reflect mine as well. It's better to challenge your opinions than just seek to validate them. I just try to see both sides of every issue, and sometimes you have to use multiple sources to do that. One of the reasons that the newspaper industry is struggling is that it's actually far easier to get a balanced view of current events on the internet, where you can see the same story from multiple different viewpoints. I now get the vast majority of my news from Reddit, which is one of the very rare sites where the comment sections actually contain intelligent arguments from knowledgeable people who often can provide better insight than the papers do.

I get annoyed when I see, for example, something absurdly biased in the favour of one of my favourite sports teams, or even something very blinkered supporting an argument I agree with, because it feels like it's devaluing my opinion. Balance is always better.

The fact that some/most papers are so clearly biased, and everyone knows it, should surely be a damning indictment of the paper in question. Surely in an ideal world, papers should be unbiased as after all, it's not their job to tell people what to think, it's their job to tell the facts and let people decide what to think for themselves. And any paper that has an agenda should be ridiculed and discredited not just accepted as 'the way it is' (*piano solo*). I know that's completely unrealistic though.

What an enjoyable afternoon! I sat working on my students' work listening to the brilliant Peter Young program on Jazz FM. If you like alternative non mainstream music and a presenter who is not up his own backside, this is a wonderful listen when there is little sport on a Saturday! Thoroughly recommend my fellow Saints fan to tune in and give it a try.

Who are these guys? Why not just let the fans sing? I'm sure they will be better and more inventive. Failing that what about a "marching band." Those with long memories witnessed this feature at the Dell in the "good old days."

Um..... I don't really like Jazz really as a genre from my (limited) experience. Unless it's Jazz Flute!

As for good radio DJs, I always liked Nicola Bonn on Heart Radio, she always seems to play excellent music. Shame she now does the 4am - 6am shift.

The only Jazz I have in my rotation of music is the "smooth jazz" from Portal 2. Good song.
