you werent trying to wind me up, you were saying how you feel.

truth is, you are an old sexist but you dont like to admit it. you belong in jurassic park.

Oh, you're doing this again are you?

Accusing someone of being sexist and getting offended over absolutely nothing? Nice.

On a different note, do you reckon if I stat #cut4astori the transfer may happen?

I may disappear suddenly today (stop cheering at the back) as I am having this Infinity thingie fitted. I wish I hadn't said yes now as I hate change to technology...they sent me a couple of e-mails asking me if I was ready citing techie stuff. No idea! Also say it can take up to 3 hours...sorry, 3 hours to fit a plastic box. Really worried now.

BT broadband eh. I've had Sky for the last few years and it's been pretty good overall if a bit slow occasionally. You'll have to let us know if your performance improves!

Hi Pepys.

Do you know how to boil an egg..? Specifically, a soft-boiled egg. I've always believed I could. This morning I decided to have two soft-boiled eggs and toast. So I got the eggs out of the fridge, half filled a small saucepan with water, popped the eggs in and set to slow boil the water. I glanced at my watch/clock/sundial/PC/clouds, in fact anything that would give me a rough indicator of 10 minutes. I've always done it this way.

While I was waiting for the eggs [and toast] I was suddenly curious to have a look at how the celebrity cooks do it. Incidentally, although I'm not Google's greatest fan, I do have to admit that when one types soft, into the Google search box, and out pops soft-boiled egg as the second answer, one gets slightly impressed.

Anyway, I digress. Delia said not to use eggs straight from the fridge [No.1 no-no] and to boil the water first before lowering them into the pan [No.2 no-no, and I was barely under way]. I should also find the air-gap and stick a pin into the egg to release the pressure [Error No.3]. I should use a precise timer [Oh dear, No.4].

The toast popped up from the toaster, and so I buttered them. I gathered my plate, salt/pepper, knife, spoon, etc.., and then, with NO CONFIDENCE AT ALL, I lifted the eggs out of the saucepan [I'd glanced at my watch/clock/sundial - it was roughly the moment, according to my old ways]

Oh crikey, [Error No.5] I'd not plunged the eggs into cold water to stop them from cooking. What was going to become of them, and me..? The result was perfect soft-boiled eggs, as I should have known, without all the farting around, and lovely buttered toast. Thank goodness I didn't look at what Heston Blumenthal had to say. as I didn't have any spare hydrogen or space rockets to hand [which no doubt would have been handy].

When I used to cook, I always put the eggs into cold water (otherwise they cracked) and timed from the boil...3 min I think. Apparently you should also never keep eggs in the fridge...always have done and eaten them way out of date....no bad eggs and never been ill.

Fran is right, never keep eggs in the fridge. They last for weeks at room temperature and they have the dates on them anyway nowadays. They don't keep them in the fridge in the shops so why would you at home? Anyway, I always start with cold water and time 3 minutes from when the water is boiling properly, not just occasional bubbles, and I am rarely disappointed. I would guess that TSS always uses the same saucepan and water volume which is why he gets consistent results doing it his way.

Just had Infinity fitted by 2 Pompey fans...said if they'd known they'd have blown my computer up. I said if I'd known I'd have spat in your tea. We had a slight disagreement about origin of 'scummers', but I let it go as they were holding my internet connection in their hands:smile: IPlayer working like lightning now.
