Bought a new laptop charger after my DIY attempt on my old one failed. Using it now, and I swear my laptop no longer has an overheating problem. It used to reach at least 80C when gaming or doing any sort of demanding multitasking, but now it barely seems to go above 60C. Is it possible that my old charger was causing the overheating? Anyone on here know about this sort of thing?

It could have been that your old charger was delivering the incorrect current due to a fault I guess?
