Time will tell I guess but as a new signing he deserves a welcome not an excuse to knock Monk (I was against his appointment btw). Not sure the French League is 'piss poor' but I agree it's definitely not as physical as the Prem but let's give the guy a chance eh?

Oh and it has to be said we ain't paying him £80,000 a week. It's normal to tempt free agents with big signing on fees. But I also agree that Gomis didn't wake up one morning recently and say "Gee I want to go and play for that legend Gary Monk at Swansea", but I don't think even Monk would say that to be fair. It's clearly the dosh but that's what motivates most players, particularly in the final part of their careers. Don't blame him one bit but let's hope he gives us something back in return.

Oh and you're all getting ahead of yourselves picking the team for next season imo. Some of those names may not even be here. Long way to go to the close of the window.

I see the team picking IMO as nothing more than a little fun until the window closes.

Dragon I am not knocking the signing and i welcome him here. But he is here for the money, which I dont blame him for that. I also dont believe we would pay that sort of money unless we were able to. I just hope he lives up to the amount he is earning. I am looking forward to seeing him in our white shirt and the red/black one as well.

I agree I dont think GM believes he is here because of him. But, as per usual there is one giving it large about GM being unable to attract players. I was simply making the point to him that I think the 80grand had more to do with it. Gomis would have signed if you had been manager. Well maybe not.<laugh>

Well if he has come for the money ( highly likely and why not ) then there's no fear of him reacting if Monk gets the heave ho ,unlike some other players who only came because of the previous incumbent

If he's come for the money then he should be determined to score a shed full of goals to get his bonuses ;)
Provided he does the business on the pitch, I couldn't care what he's picking up a week.

Please....how many boards have you been laughed off of now DullDai?
I'll tell you what was really funny...you calling me a twat and then running to the mods when I responded in kind <laugh>
    Schoolgirl stuff that.

Or how about boring on about how Bony's bigger wages seriously damaged team morale and how we shouldn't make such a purchase like that again until we've grown as a club.....
and now, 5 months later(!), you're cheering on the signing of Gomis who will be the best paid player at the club by a country mile.
Keep the chuckles coming **** for brains <laugh>

Man up and admit Gomis is a great signing. - He hasn't played 1 f**king minute for us or indeed in the Premier League yet. How the f**k do you conclude he is a great signing? Because he cost a lot of money? I'll tell you who was a great signing....Michu
By the way, what makes you think we're paying him £4 million per year?- The wage demands his agent was making public when he was touting him around....the numerous press reports, both national and local...the clubs who were in for him.
And what makes you think we'll keep him for 4 years? We may pay him for 1-2 seasons and then sell for £10 million+ and make a profit- why don't you get back to me on how many 30-31 year olds leave mid-lower table clubs for £10m plus?
This is a great deal. Don't forget that he came on a free transfer, so we've save a small fortune there. - This is a risky and therefore probably a **** deal. The only way it can work is if he scores a decent amount of goals for us over the next 4 years....which I'm not saying won't happen, just that the odds are not in our favour and therefore the risk involved is too great....but I guess that's way over your head.

KIA I actually agree with all the replies you have made here. But, Lets give hime a chance to show he is worth the incredible money we are paying him. i think there will be quite a few teams fans jealous that we have managed to pull this off.

However he still has a lot of proving to do to our fans and i have no doubt that whilst they will be right behind him, it wont take long for them to give him hassle should he not perform on the field and start performing off the field(which he has in the past). lets hope that the board have got another one right.

Mr KIA is right on daiswan - spot on. There's no consistency in his arguments at all.

But I disagree with him on points such as "I'll tell you who was a great signing....Michu" - that's with the benefit of hindsight. On one side we have a group saying it's a great deal and on the other a group saying it's terrrible. I'm somewhere in the middle if that's not fudging it. Signing anyone (well almost anyone) is a risk isn't it? Only time will tell if Gomis will be another Bony - in which case it's a good deal - or a complete flop - in which case it's a bad one. Our history, at least recently, is signing players who've done very well for us and themselves so let's have a little faith at least for now.

Edit: Tlf you beat me to it.

And not only that we could potentially earn between £400m to £450m in the next 4 years...

Daiswan: I've always found that when I'm in a debate and someone starts name calling I come to two conclusions. Firstly, I've probably won the argument and two, the intelligence of the other person isnt sufficient to debate. <ok>

Dai you know the rules about insults. You slammed the board for Bony's wages and you are now okay with Gomis wages. You can't have it both ways.

there is ha big difference between Bony and gomis. We paid £12m for bony and give him and his agent a signing on fee and put him on high wages and gomis came on a free...Big big difference..

Not when you thnk that the ages could upset other senior players a la your theory with Bony last year.
