quotes from the Lyon president....

I really feel that behind Newcastle, there is another club trying to pull the strings in the wrong way and have Lyon make a very bad deal.”

” I am convinced that if he does not go to Newcastle, the solution that will be proposed to him will be much worse, and I hope with all my heart that this matter is settled at the earliest opportunity.”

“Newcastle is in agreement with the player, he’ll get £70K per week (wow), and that’s obviously higher than he earns in Lyon = Newcastle is a great club, but not French, but French-English (laughs all around in the press conference).

“There were a number of excessive demands that are making Newcastle reluctant, particularly concerning the benefits of some intermediaries.” “If there is no possibility to find a way out, things will change gear.”

“I am disappointed because the deal has not been finalized with Newcastle, and I’m pessimistic over the transfer now,”

“We filed a complaint on Monday because certain clubs were unsettling the player.” ”Some offered dishonest proposals to try to derail the deal.” “I will let the committee settle it.” “Gomis will be reintegrated into the squad if he is not transferred.”

“I think that we should not have fun with this stuff, especially when it is with a great club like Marseilles.”

“When there is a problem between an employer and a player, the responsibility is not only that of the employer, and when there is only one year of the term of his contract left, there are two solutions, it is either a transfer or renewal of his contract.”

“We love Bafé and he is an excellent boy in terms of football.” “Newcastle presented him with a deal which is what he wants, and it also satisfies us.”

“I may have to ask the question differently. Maybe I will offer him a deal to stay, and maybe at that time, he will leave.”

if Gomis really wants his move that badly he can sack his agents or at least take a paycut on his £70k a week wages to offset any gap surely.

Some people want job satisfaction, others just want cash.

Of course the agents want them to have the cash so that they themselves get a better cut out of it.

To be honest, it's an archaic view anyway - makes me worry about Pardew and how often someone like Gomis will take to the field, thus bypassing our midfield....again....

There aren't that many around and in the last few years they've become increasingly ineffective. Mobility up front is far more crucial, so signing Remy was key. I mean, look at beasts like Carew and Zigic. Just didn't work, you can stand off as a CB, let them win it and double up for the knock down. Carroll's been a bit more unplayable because he's young enough to put himself about, but that takes its toll on a body, hence his injury rate. Drogba was the best at it, but players like him are few and far between. Lukaku looks to be the next big thing; Gomis took the tag of mini-Drogba about 6 years ago and never really lived up to it.

I know what you mean in an ideal world we'd be going for a berbatov-esque character (is their anyone BUT him though) true, carroll's already injured as it is isn't he? Would be interesting to see how many games he's been injury free for against those he's missed through injury. It's just IF he could stay injury free for a season you'd have one scary player on ya hands, but as we saw over dyer's career being injury-prone rarely changes

Yep, Carroll's out for a couple more weeks yet. May not make our game, apparently. He's got to have missed something like 30-40% of games, so understand why we didn't want to go for him. All it takes is a year or two more of constant niggles and all of a sudden your game just isn't there anymore. Big Dunc was almost identical - when you're THAT big and throwing yourself around, the joints just cannot take it.

It may now be that we're waiting for other clubs to move. For instance, once Chelsea get Rooney, what does that mean for their strikers? Rooney's going to play 90% of matches, does he play alongside Lukaku? Or Torres? Or Ba? You'd have to think one of those isn't going to be happy. If that's Lukaku, who knows, maybe we have a chance. If it's one of the other two (more likely) then it doesn't much matter.

One final point - I cannot understand why we're not interested in Ibrahima Toure from Monaco. He's a big, Senegalese CF up for sale at £4m. He's no World beater, but if you're looking for someone to act as target man in 30% of your games, it seems like an easy deal to me.

So when is Christian Eriksen signing as our new number 10 then? What he's not? :emoticon-0106-cryin

Well what about his mate De Jong? No?

So Shola is staying <yikes>
