Apparently negotiations have stalled because Lyon want 10 million Euros for Gomis. We are only willing to offer around 5 or 6 million Euros

It will be the same bullshit outcome as per usual. We track a player for a while then are too stingy to pay up the required money. I wouldn't be that bothered but its three weeks to the new season and still we haven't brought in reinforcements.

Twitter reports now highlighting he is now in talks and a deal is close (with our look I can't see it )

This mornings Gomis twitter and newspaper rumours are something like this:

He's gone AWOL, told Lyon he only wants to move to us, has arrived in Newcastle last night on a flight from Heathrow, is due to sign for us having had a £6m bid accepted, has told Lyon he only wants to sign for Marseille, has a prohibitive 10m Euro price tag...

As well as the issue of the initial fee isn't he on good wages? 60 to 70k per week. I hope he isn't expecting a wage increase of FCB or he might as well get back on the plane and apologise to he employers...

I don't want to appear negative but I would be (pleasantly) surprised if we get Gomis 'over the line'.
I also fear that the club is starting to play with fans - drip feeding that we are serious, to certain source and media outlets, in our pursuit knowing the chances are slim...

A sentiment echoed by George Caulkin ‏from The Times who stated today:

"Told today by good source #Nufc are now "close" to signing Gomis.
Also seen French reports about impasse with Lyon which doesn't exactly fit"

If you take a cynical position you have to wonder why this transfer has been played out, even to the point of figures discussed, in the media.
A stark contrast with previous signings. You could, of course, cite that it is the other side that is leaking details but (and this is a big but) NUFC officials are also talking to media outlets.

There are numerous inconsistencies that are appearing in recent media reports.
Look at HBA. Less than a week ago we were told - by the club - that his fitness level has never been higher.
Today, we are told HBA's exclusion from the friendly is due to him being back at Benton working on his fitness.

If you are going to be a good liar you have to be consistent in your stories and remember them. Tripping up on either of these attributes and you just look stupid.

A word that, I think, fits our current management structure simply because they think/hope we, the paying public, are stupid.

To be fair to the club I think they have every right not to bid the 10 million euros being asked. Given his contract situation I'd say our reported bid of 6.9 million is a fair one and should be our final offer.

Isn't it a shame that our esteemed owners have allowed a situation to develop where it is obvious to all the world that we need to strengthen urgently in a certain position. It is obviously going to lead selling clubs to try to milk every last £ that they can from NUFC.

This.
I'd say £7m or fook you....
We'll get him for nothing in less than 12 months so Lyon have a big choice to make..

To be fair, the Lyon president (Aulas?) is notorious for shouting his mouth off at every opportunity. In the final days of the Cabaye transfer, it was similar.

As for HBA, they probably meant that he'd got to a good weight level having put on a few pounds last season. They're not going to say that, but being in good shape and being match fit aren't the same thing. The communication from NUFC is dreadful, but at least they've made their bet - The Mirror - and are now attempting to produce methodical soundbytes, even if they're vapid and from a loathesome lunatic.
