Depends.

If we have a plausible Plan B, then definitely. Stick to your valuations and don't be held to ransom.

If not signing Gomis means not signing anyone, however, then there are times when you have to admit you've screwed things up and not let pride get in the way. Not having a decent striker will cost much, much more than the extra 2 million euros.

Isn't that what Aulas is thinking?

Probably.

If we need to buy and he is the only seller, then he does indeed have us at a bit of a disadvantage. If there is an alternate supplier, the power shifts markedly. Depends how many of our eggs are in this basket

Technically isn't Gomis something like Plan B or even C? Aubameyang was A, may even be that Bent was next. We do indeed look like we're running out of options - this is why I always look cynically at any club-sponsored press releases that cover up the failings, most recently of course being Gouffran talking extensively about being used in the middle, Pardew backing up that claim and subsequent praise for Shola...a player who one month or so ago was pretty much up for sale.

Worrying times now.

I don't agree with people's theory that we shouldn't offer the extra 2mill.

2mill is the equivalent to about an extra 2 places up th table come May next year. Signing Gomis would probably gain us those extra two places, thus making the extra money back.

Again, depends if we have a Plan B

I agree with the sentiment completely but I just don't think we are at that point already where we have zero options. There is a full month of the window remaining. I'd like him to come in. If we get Remy in on loan, maybe we can then apply a bit of "we are not desperate" pressure to Aulas.

Hi dudes,

Im a french Lyon's fan, I come here to read your news and feelings on the Gomis' deal.

I can tell you that Gomis is a good striker. He scored minimum 15 goals each season.
He doesn't become a top 30'goals striker in our team for many reasons:
-the main is the concurrence and the turnover with Lisandro Lopez, they shared the total of goals,so instead of having a striker with 30 goals, we had two 15'goals strikers during those last three seasons.
-We don't have a tactical play that suits him and his skills.(it's a reason we want to sell him).He is an Adebayor type of player, not a suarez alike, if you know what I mean.
-He miss some easy goals sometimes, but score breathless goals aswell. But the most important with him is that he is a absolute nightmare for the defenders, he really keeps well the ball, and use perfectly his big ass^^ And IMO its the best part of him. when in a match your team is in difficulties, you just have to kick the ball ahead and he will keep it and wait for his partners. And it is relieving for sure.

All the lyon's fans like gomis, but most of we prefer Lisandro cause he has so much soul and grinta. He loves the club, and as I said, he match our tactical play (technical, little passes). And we have Lacazette,Benzia,Njie who are extremly talented AC from our formation center, so the club want to let them have playtime behind Licha'

Having said that, I think your 8million bid was fair enough, for his one last year contract.
But you have to understand our chairman Aulas.Swansea,Shaktar and fernebahce were already okay to pay 12M but Gomis refused it and its the only reason he is still with us.
Gomis wants to play the world cup,he will not take the risk to stay and give up his chances, that's for sure.
So why Aulas should accept a 8M bid, while he has better options on his table ?and maybe another club enter the race.
In addition, Aulas saw that NUFC offered 12M for Andre pierre GIGNAC!!! And the fact is that everyone in France, even if the Marseille's fans, know that Gomis is far better than gignac in every point.Everyone knows that here, even if on the Marseille's forums.
So well, clearly, if Aulas refused that 8M bid, its because he has other otpions behind.

When you see the price of Cavani,caroll...Gomis is easily worth 15M haha:D

Gomis refused 3 options, now he prefer go to Marseille for CL, OM want him but they can only take Gomis if they sell Gignac. And gignac really doesn't want to leave,so it's dead.
Gomis is interested in NUFC (brazil, debuchy, cabaye),but he has an argument with Aulas, so our chairman will not let him go easily and accept a lower bid just because he chooses that team.IF he stays, he can say bye bye to the world cup, so Aulas is in a strong position even if with the one last year contract.
And maybe other clubs can enter the dance to take him.Tottenham and liverpool have already an eye on him, i won't be surprised if they come with a '8M+2M bonus bid' to win the lot

Does Cisse will stay for sure at newcastle?
What about cabaye?MU?

sorry for the long text and my bad english writing tools ;)

Thanks for the insight.

Your English is very good (I think you mean "grit" though, not "grinta", which isn't a word).

Has anyone else actually made a bid for Gomis ? I haven't seen any reports of 12 million bids being made for Gomis, or of us making a bid for Gignac

Your English is alot better than my French. Accueil.
An interesting read from another perspective.
Personally, I hope we pay the extra money and get him in.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Oui.

Thanks for the heads up on Gomis.

Sounds like this is a big striker who holds up play very well(perfect foil for Mike Williamson)

After tidusko's introductions to Gomis I feel that we really should go for him.

Me interpreter has gone home, but get the 10m€

All those years ago, knew I should have stuck in with French.

I really hope this is true. It's our own fault we are having to pay a bit of a premium as MA has let us get so thin on the ground in striking terms. Really at the end of the day 2million euros isn't all that much on top when you are as needy in a position as we are. We'll lose a lot more than that if we are forced to rely on Shola for a large portion of the season.

Also, from what Tidusko says he sounds like someone we need - a striker who can hold the ball up is something we have been missing.

Transfers with us is like ****ting bricks lately.

Arguably we're a top 10 Premier league side. Players should be wanting to come to us. Yet we take months to sign people and in the end we too pay the full price. 10 mio € might look cheap, but € to £ isn't what it used to be.
