This has everything to do with Allam's, our business was done, but we lost Macca, Killer has left, Cooper's out on loan until January and we were told that Ayala was available if we want him. We want to pay £500k, Liverpool want £1m, I assume we'll meet somewhere in the middle, but the Allam's have had to stick in this extra money.

Cheers mate! Nice to know the senility isn't advancing too rapidly! (Thought I must've imagined it...)

Wonder what our "competitive" budget was?

500k for Evans
100k for Dudgeon
800k for Hobbs
nil for McKenna and Adebola

Difficult to assess I suppose given the HUGE complexity of the wages thrown into the mix.

If we get Ayala, I would have thought that will eat into whatever is put aside in January should we be in a position to push on. If we are there or there about the top 6 I assume Nigel would have been given funds to strengthen and push on?? Maybe Ayala's purchase has thinned that resource somewhat.

If Bullard is successfully sacked it will obviously free up significant funds, but I doubt they will be available this season as I would assume there will be appeal by Bullards representatives and other legal ranglings.

Dudgeon was £300k.

I get the impression that the budget is fluid, the Allam's seem to take more of a 'if we need it, lets do it' sort of approach, if we're in the running in January and there's an obvious deficiency in the squad, I think it will probably be taken care of.

I guess when they talk about a competitive budget, they are referring to the £15m wage budget, a budget that doesn't include Bullard and Oily and possibly Ghilas. I'd say that's pretty competitive. If you imagine that when we went up, we only had Hughes, Okocha and Folan said to be earning 10k a week. A budget of £15m would pay that wage for 20 players.

I can't see how we as a club value Ayala at £300k less than Hobbs? Hobbs is a good player, but I thought Ayala was a cut above. £1m would still represent a good value buy for Ayala who is the right age/ability and should only improve.

Ayala only has a year left on his contract. I don't think it in anyway says anything about his ability. bear in mind that 500k is an opening offer. If we want to pay 800k say, we're not going to go in at that price. It's negotiation.

That's one way of looking at it, another would be that we're valuing him at £200k more than Chester. <ok>

If he wants to move and the indications are that he understands he needs to PLUS there aren't any other clubs after him PLUS the funds would be made available, I imagine we'll make a deal, it will probably be too late for Blackpool but that's not of any great concern.

Valuations, particularly of young players, include a large element of factors other than the ability of the player. Chester was so low a fee because of the quality United have in that position, both in the first team and the reserves. Ayala is an overseas player which, by general perception, puts him ahead of Chester in the technical ablity stakes. Also Liverpools youth setup is not a patch on United's so the additional supply there could well force Chester's price down. Also, United are superb at looking after their youngsters, so they will do their best to sort them out with a club if they are not going to make it at OT. Another factor that will skew the valuation.

In terms of potential, age, current ability together, I would value Ayala and Chester at a very similar level. However, I have the feeling Chester will prove to be a star both for us and the BIG club he will inevitably play for in the future.

Spot On. The team for Blackpool would i assume be picked and all set to go now. The focus of us ALL has now to be
of winning the Blackpool game. Ayala - Bullard and all other side shows will have to wait. 3 points is all that matters
for now.

Isnt the Bullard, Oli and Ghilas situation under-written and outside of the 'normal' playing budget?

I work in sales, I know what negotiation is. Opening bid is half the valuation of the selling club. Extraordinary bidding tactic by the management. Regardless of time left on his contract he falls under that u23 ruling doesn't he? Therefore to a degree Liverpool are protected. I just want him signed, this would be our signing of the summer IMHO.

They're not entitled to much in the way of compo, he went through the Sevilla academy, he's only been at Liverpool since they released him as an 18 year old. Just because Liverpool want £1m for him, it doesn't mean we should pay it, if no-one else is in for him and we're the only offer on the table, then we're likely to get a good deal.

Anyone following Anthony Gerrards twitters at the moment ? for those who are Do you get a feel that he aint that happy being back @ Cardiff City ? he is always going on about boring training and keeping tabs on Mclean. Maybe AP and Hull City have got something arrnged for next summer when AG is out of contract ? I've nothing concrete on this,
just a hunch. Will be keeping tabs of AG tweetings for anymore clues.

I wouldn't want him back. His contribution at a time when we were on the bones of our arse was absolutely brilliant but he's not better than what we have.

The peace on Kop That re.Ayala says it the best. Also interesting to read that Liverpool are offloading either on loan or selling there squad players. 42 pros on there books at the moment and Kenny wants an England international defender in soon. Cahill - Jagielka or maybe Shawcross fits the bill.? Strange that Matthew Upson is not fixed yup yet ? Anyway
the point being, City maybe willing to pay 1million for Ayala but just not all now. Half now and half in the future ?? the
delay being, when is the future. ?

totally agree Theo. but to get a centre half of that quality on Free is a No Brainer surely ?

Hoobs and Chester, Gerrard and Ayala. Not a bad looking double pairing is it for 2012/13.
