    Watched highlights on the news.
The woman who won had to helped off as she'd knocked herself out.
As for H&S, it was a reason given for ut being an 'unofficial event' as it circumvented a lot of issues.
However, a 71 year old who wanted a go was dissuaded. So there are some measures in place.

One of life's great oddities. A bit like the world bog snorkling championships in llanwrtyd wells.

That's what you get for rolling cheese and drinking wine while trying to play golf!

    Speak for yourself.
Mrs Remote would find me more odd jobs to do if she thought I could multi-task.

Which begs the question "how many Swallows does it take to make a summer?"

But enough if this inuendo and maskey's flaps. Is the shearing completed and is the tractor fully maintained. Also, what happens on a smallholding at this time of year with regard to farming?

    Shearing all done.
Unfortunately, one of the young ewes that had fly strike had a recurrence. Treated her and there were maggots dropping everywhere. A couple days and she was dead.

Loads to do with the tractor. One with the brakes seeming a big job.
Independent brakes left and right, but for general use the pedals lock together. Brakes on the left, nothing on the right. Quite a bit of fluid on the floor under the right side suggesting a leak somewhere. Seems a difficult job just to get access. A call needed to the local Ford expert.

Quite a quiet time for us, though the usual routine maintenance.
Local dairy farmer wants to rent some of the shed, so hopefully a deal to be done there. Steady income as well. Cash flow an issue with sheep. All the money comes in over a 3 month period, but it goes out for 12 months.

My main task at the moment is a daily rain dance. Grass is stopping growing.
    Not good.
    Local tatty farmers getting worried.
Watch out for more food inflation.

On a positive note, had 500litres of red diesel delivered this morning. This time last year I paid 121p a litre. This time, 71p. Happy days.

Cheers remote. I like to hear what's going on. Sorry to hear about the sheep.
It's fascinating to try and grasp how many diverse jobs that need to be done. I think it's probably more difficult for smallholdings than large industrial farmers?
Anyway, farms in the UK will soon be a thing of the past as we buy everything from New Zealand, Australia etc :emoticon-0121-angry

Big farms have more people with different skills. Im a jack of all trades.
    It has been an education.
Mechanic, vetinary nurse, builder, shepherd, tractor driver and more.

In the UK there are becoming fewer and fewer, bigger and bigger farms as the small ones get bought out.
Very few ways in for youngsters unless you're born into a farming family.
Unless the UK public start paying the going rate for local produce, you're right, it'll all get imported.
    Manufacturing gone, farming next.

    My current view. 20230608_161249~3.jpg

    A "what" of all trades?<yikes>
So I guess "flexible, adaptable and quick learner" are prominent on the personal profile of your CV. I can certainly see that there must be an awful lot of satisfaction in the job...though probably tinged occasionally by things like your poor sheep.
Yep, our government's answer to soaring prices and farmers struggling, is to sign deals with countries as far away as is possible. But what do I know!
Anyway, thanks for the updates, I really do find it fascinating.<ok>

Out at the small holding early. Get the jobs done before the heat of the day.
Had to build a new pad under the shed downpipe. Used pallets before but they disintegrated. A 1000l IBC is a tonne when full.
Found a couple railway sleepers hidden away behind the shed so levelled the ground and used them. Much more stable.
Im now like a wrung out dish cloth.
Wanted to get it done as there are thunder storms forecast later.
The shed is 135' by 36' so it doesn't take a lot of rain to fill an IBC.

We'll pop out later to put the animals away.
Mrs remote says we can grab a pint in a local hostelry then.

    Good shout Remote.

Currently sat in the Pick & Shovel with a cold beer, Mrs Brizzle (she's on G&T) and the YouTube stream of the Champions League final.

Hoping Citeh win it just because of the pain it will cause Man Utd and Liverpool fans :emoticon-0130-devil
