Excellent OP by Swords which has brought some good responses. Nines has it right when he says that Adel is an essential part of the team's DNA, which can lead to volatile results because of the player's own fragile psyche. As Nines says, Adel has always performed at his best (and thus the team performs at its best) when he has a manager to put an arm around his shoulder, encouraging him and telling him some home truths. NW's removal of the arm (in favour of the likes of Barton and SWP) resulted a drop of form in the team and ultimately NW's demise. Hughes gave all players the cold shoulder and didn't get the best out of any of them. Harry is too astute not to see Adel's importance. He is to us what Rodney Marsh was in the 1960's, or Les Ferdinand in the 90's. He will be a loss during ACON. The other players must step up to the plate.

Yes but Colin brought him back in the warm again for a few games before he got sacked, after leaving him out for about a month only, after a few Cr*p performances not just at Fulham.

Great opening post swords...perfect length read for a cup of tea and croissant...

Taarabt, as with any player, has good and bad days. On his bad days, he is largely anonymous. However on his good days, for example Saturday, he can dictate games and score fantastic goals. We've just got to accept the good with the bad and be grateful when we see what we saw on Saturday.

It's not uncommon either...all great players have good days and bad days, I'm sure if you watched a DVD of all Beckhams free kicks a fair few would go high and wide amongst the crackers that flew in. Take the good with bad, but be grateful and in awe of the very good when it comes.

Warnock had feted Adel before our successful Championship season, even flying out to Morocco to try to sign him. Adel basked in his manager's adulation, and responded accordingly. When he was ignored in favour of Warnock's new toys at the start of our Prem campaign, Warnock suddenly reacting with impatience at Adel's occasional tantrums, Adel's form dropped like a stone. Putting him back in the team as a matter of desperation was never going to be enough to raise the player's confidence imho. Adel is an enigma. He can be as frustrating as hell but given the right managerial treatment, he can consistently be the difference between two opposing teams.

Yes. I agree your basic point, just that you seem to have forgotten what happened. Adel played well start of last season - I think he must hold records for how many shots he had on the woodwork. Then he lost it at Fulham and Spurs and was rightly left out. but Colin brought him back and Adel was playing reasonably well again before Colin got sacked and Hughes came in. Both Colin and also Hughes did very well with Adel, Hughes got him tackling and fighting back, lets hope now Harry can help Adel go still further, he looked very, very good Saturday anyway.

Zidane was the same ... it's a cultural thing and the Anglo Saxons wear really big blinkers. Warnock has to take a big slice of credit as he also does but buggering the whole thing up

My position is this - we all know what taarabt is capable of, if what he needs is to be loved, let's love him and reap the reward. I may have been slightly OTT in describing him as world class, but feel the only thing preventing him from being so is consistency. He can do things that most pros can only dream of and for now he's ours. So I'm going to remain solidly in the 'love him' category. Respect.

My memory may be playing up, Oslo but I recall Adel being a shadow of his former self even before Fulham. After the disastrous result to Bolton in the first game, we had decent away victories at Everton and Wolves but I don't recall Adel making much impact in those. After the draw with the Villa, came Fulham away...

In those games after Bolton, Trapped, in answer to the big question (can he do it in the prem?), responded accordingly. He covered more ground, got into some less familiar quick pass and move stuff, and engaged in splaying long range diagonal passes to wingers for the fun of it. Despite failing to score, there were a number of near miss, excellent shots. Ask the woodwork!

But this, and his receding relationship with Warnock, must be set in the context of a summer of perceived 'disloyalty' from our then captain. Went public on a number of occasions expecting THE big move that never came. Even went to the extent of saying he'd take a move to the likes of Newcastle as a stepping stone to the top four. Unlike his recent performances and references to doing it for 'my club' (QPR), Trapped had to do a great deal more at that time than he did, to convince us that he cared about the club who'd 'made' him. Strange times for an unsettled Rangers squad and much of it self-induced.

Hope that helps jog the memory. Moving on... !

Just before we move on...! The big-transfer talk over the summer was not just given legs by Adel. Briatore and Eccles would have eagerly pocketed the cash had PSG or another come in for him seriously

Now I'm off to consult the woodwork...

In response to Swords' eloquent OP - is it as sincere as it would appear at face value? You can never tell. One moment he's on a well disguised wind up for the hell of it, the next he's all caring and sensitive about the best interests of the board. Wolf in sheep's clothing to us veterans on here - but still a leading act for many.

In response to Norf's 'round, round' non-comment. Couldn't agree more. Seen it all before, before, before...

    So let's go again.

This is a fans' forum. All about 'voicing' opinions. Anyone who thinks we're all cut from the same cloth and see games and player performances in the same way is seriously away with the fairies - and there's certainly one or two on here aren't there?

As I've said a few times before, it's a bit like us all standing at a distance around a tree. If we each describe that same tree from our personal angle, they will vary greatly. Shape, form, texture, light, shade will all appear to describe different trees. Take our opinions on SWP and even Mackie on Saturday. Some of us thought they'd done nothing comparatively and others that they'd done pretty well under the circs.

However, vive la différence as they say. I for one, come on here to trade opinions. Not to convert people to my point of view but to benefit from their's. If I'm watching TV or sitting in the Ellerslie, I can't see what those in the Loft or SAR stands are seeing and vice versa. Rather than trying to merge opinions, the great thing about a fans' forum is to keep them separate, thus providing the unique opportunity for a multi-dimensional appreciation of all things QPR.

If I had one wish for the goings on on here it would be to banish intransigence. There should be no such thing as pro or anti Trapped. Just an audience response to his latest performance, good, bad or ugly.

True fans, if there's a distinction, go mad either way. Roar when we score, moan when we concede and depart at the final whistle to a weekend of utter despair, euphoria or somewhere in between.

That, my friends, is the way of fandom. No point trying to stage manage individual or group opinion. Those basics will never change.

The biggest problem with Taarabt is consistency, I want him to perform at Newcastle as he did on Saturday
Will he produce that magic again, unlikely

It is Adel was at that time the Player with the most shots on target in the Premiership. It was probably that this board was 95% slagging him off I don't forget

Even Messi would struggle playing in our present squad, it will be very difficult at Newcastle for all, not just for Taarabt.

. What score with the best finish in the premiership so far he can only upstage himself ... Other teams will go out to snuff him out ... watch where Tiote plays Sat if he isn't banned?

Exactly. His style of play offends traditional English football fans idea of how somebody should play and because of this he is a player who's deficiencies and by his standard below par performances are seized on and exagerrated more so than any other player.

This shows just how consitent he is. If we were to have someone like Darren Bent on the end of these chances then we wouldn't be in the position we're in.

"He seems to have become a little more unselfish in his play already this season, having created more chances this season (2.7 per game) compared to last (2.2). Only seven Premier League players can boast a better key pass rate than Taarabt this season (as can be seen on WhoScored.com's Premier League statistics page), and most of those rely on set pieces to lay on those chances. In fact, only Everton's Steven Pienaar (2.5) and Liverpool's Luis Suarez (2.46) create more chances in open play on average than the Moroccan (2.33); an astounding statistic for a player at a team that has scored only 10 league goals and are bottom of the table".

Oh so I criticize his poor performances because he's a Muslim is it? What a horrible little Islamofascist you are.

You're just an ignorant little fundamentalist that's typical of your breed.

Still offering violence I see. Just shows you up for the petty little thug that you are.

I hope the Taffs throw the book at you in that Court case. People like you should be locked up and the key thrown away.
