I saw him at Warren Place back in July. He's a gorgeous, big horse so my guess is that he won't be seen until the back end of the season. We saw him do a routine canter with two other companions, so he's certainly been in work. Racing Post don't usually add a horse to their database until it receives its first entry, hence why he's not on there yet.

Speaking of Sir Henry, a colleague of mine saw him in a Newmarket bistro on Friday evening last week. The establishment concerned is run by Sir Henry's step-daughter. My colleague didn't want to disturb his supper so commented to his step-daughter that it was nice to see him out and about. She replied that he was doing well and responding to his treatment.

The closest you want to risk breeding is 2x3, hence Jim Bolger taking the risk of breeding daughters of Galileo to Sea the Stars, thus inbreeding to Urban Sea.

So, in theory yes you could breed him to daughters of Danehill which would result in a cross of 3x2 to Danehill and 4x4x3 to Northern Dancer (who is both Frankel's paternal great-grand-sire and his maternal great-grand-sire). It's an incestuous business!

No problem! It does take a bit of time to get your head round.

Breeding 2x3 means the same horse appears in both the second and third generations of a horse's pedigree, so for a theoretical foal by Sea the Stars out of a Galileo mare:

Sire Side:

Generation 0 - foal (son/daughter of)
Generation 1 - Sea The Stars (son of)
Generation 2 - Urban Sea

Dam Side:

Generation 0 - foal (son/daughter of)
Generation 1 - dam (daughter of)
Generation 2 - Galileo (son of)
Generation 3 - Urban Sea


For the Frankel cross with Danehill mares you would have:

Sire Side

Generation 0 - foal (son/daughter of)
Generation 1 - Frankel (son of)
Generation 2 - Kind (daughter of)
Generation 3 - Danehill

Dam Side

On this page I've managed to put together a hypothetical mating between Frankel and Banks Hill (a daughter of Danehill). As you can see, the resulting foal is inbred to 10 different horses in varying degrees.

Sunday’s Racing Post had a Newmarket Gallop Watch which mentioned MORPHEUS, Frankel’s 2yo half-brother by Oasis Dream. It read:

“Before he put his illustrious elder sibling through his paces on the Rowley Mile, Tom Queally enjoyed a gentle breeze on Frankels’ two year old half-brother on the Al Bahathri. By Oasis Dream, the youngster is expected to make his debut next month.”


On other matters, I had intended to put up a preview of this week’s Goffs Orby Yearling Sale but my computer has crashed and I have lost the file I had written up in advance! If I get the chance I will try to pull something together.
