Sad news that MONSUN has been put down at the age of 22. He had been blind for a number of years and was put to sleep last night due to a deteriorating neurological condition.

    More here

Random, you might find this website of interest regarding medication detection, etc.

    Hi PN...

Just wondering what figure you reckon Frankel will attract as a first year stallion? Is it likely to be a private figure and depends pretty much on how much the breeders are willing to pay or will it be fixed fee?

It will be a fixed fee I imagine. The last horse to retire on a Private fee was Dubai Millennium in 2001 but those heady days are long gone.

I imagine we'll be looking at a figure on a par with Sea the Stars, €85,000. I'd honestly be surprised if it was over £100,000.

Juddmonte aren't known for doing deals with their stallions like other major stud farms, what they advertise they expect you to pay!

Be fascinating to see how many Juddmonte mares he covers.

Coolmore always make sure they keep a lot of their best for Galileo.

I'd imagine the first two on the list will be Hasili and Midday!

Timepiece as well if she's off to the barn and hopefully Fame at Last if neither of those are related.

How close can they cross breed with him. Can he breed with any Danehill mares or is that cutting it too fine? Essentially we're talking half aunt I think. What about a danehill full sister, they have at least one of those. I only ask because being a son of Galileo he might go well with Danehill mares but obviously there is some Danehill in him.

The closest you want to risk breeding is 2x3, hence Jim Bolger taking the risk of breeding daughters of Galileo to Sea the Stars, thus inbreeding to Urban Sea.

So, in theory yes you could breed him to daughters of Danehill which would result in a cross of 3x2 to Danehill and 4x4x3 to Northern Dancer (who is both Frankel's paternal great-grand-sire and his maternal great-grand-sire). It's an incestuous business!

Hawkeye, going back to your question on the Hennessy - the entries close on 30th October, so I'd expect them to publish a list on 31st.

It's been reported today that Richard Hannon's HARBOUR WATCH has been retired form racing and will take up stud duties at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire, alongside MAKFI and SLEEPING INDIAN. Connections decided time had run out to get him to the racecourse again after surgery which has seen him off the racetrack since winning the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood last year.

A fee has not been announced.

Princess, Not sure if you'll know. But have you heard anything about the Henry Cecil colt Morpheus (Oasis Dream/Kind)? I can't find him on the Racing Post database...
