I am starting a new Quiz competition and will score each player accordingly and establish who knows their onions without resorting to Wikipedia though I'm sure answers can be found using research engines !

1.What do Reference Point and New Approach have in common and Reference Point and Camelot have in common ? (2 separate answers required)

2.What do only the following Derby winners since 1960 have in common....Larkspur , Sea Bird II , Commander In Chief, Galileo , Sea The Stars ?

3.What links the results of the following races 1961 Grand National,1992 Derby,1997 Derby,2007 Grand National ?

4.What connects the following Grand National winners over the past 40 years....Well To Do , Red Rum , Lucius , Miinehoma , West Tip , Don't Push It ?

5.Which famous racehorse connects two famous jockeys who were born on 5th November and 15th November though ten years apart ?

6.What connects Champion 2 mile chaser Fortria,Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander and Grand National winner Gay Trip ?

7.Since 1980 what were Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Burrough Hill Lad,Forgive N' Forget and See More Business the only horses to do which was not achieved by any other winners since then ?

Reference Point and New Approach were both the highest rated 2YOs in Europe
Reference Point and Camelot both won the Derby and then tried to win the St Leger

No idea on question 2 ...............

Wow this is one thread that i wont be coming onto with any frequency... Well above my knowledge this without the use of Wikki...<laugh>

OddDog..good try and barking along the right lines, but not the fully correct answer to the question as many other 2 year olds were the top 2 year olds over the years...what did just those two have in common whilst other horses have also won the Derby and tried to win the St Leger too !

You've just ruled me out of the comp AS. Whilst I can manage without (in most) looking up Wikipedia, most of my success before was by utilising my database which, ahem, I built up from Wikipedia.

Therefore, unfortunately, I'm out. I'll pop in from time to time just in case I see a question I can answer off the top of my head but, if I can, someone will be much quicker.

Nice one Cyc.

1- They are both horses, and they are both horses. Deny it if you will, but it is true.
2- They are the only Derby winners who do not need commas after their names when they are being listed. Deny it if you will, but it is true.

I see the real statto buffs are out in force on this thread so far....don't worry all will be revealed at 5.00 today.....Brigadier I already gave a clue with my comment to OddDog in response to his answers.

I was going to go for a crafty pint after work, but I think I will hang around with Bated Breath (happy retirement) to find out the results of this. I know I am right with my answer though, it is plain to see.

You could have added they all have 4 legs to get extra points NB !

I couldn't be certain of this, rumour has it that some may have a fifth leg.

Points mean prizes, I do hope I get a prize.

EDIT - I am afraid you are wrong once more, Reference Point no longer has four legs, because he is dead and has been for long enough for this to change. Plus he died because of a fractured leg, do you have a dark sense of humour?

More points equals more prizes.

Not at all ,RV and I replied to him in kind..though no surprise he doesn't know the actual answers !

If he wants to be pedantic I can also say that in his original answer he used the word "are"...i.e Reference Point still exists in his eyes !!

You follow ?
