He had a great backroom team behind him who could spot talent and weed out those who were promising but wouldn't make it to those who would make it. Maurice Lindley, Les Cocker and I met Bob English when I was 10 when he came to my house to see my dad. He didnt want me though he wanted my 8 year old brotherI wonder what team The Don would have put together with this attitude to kids.
Wasn't Lash only 15? And if I remember correctly, Eddie, Sprake, Reaney & Bremner were only 17. Coops was knocking on at 18 too, wasn't he?
And what 1st division experience did they have?
I agree with you that if you’re good enough then age doesn’t matter. I question if the current crop are good enough. As I said, they weren’t considered so in the championship, you could see that by how we moved the defence around when injury hit and we still play Dallas in midfield, so I can’t see what has changed to suddenly make them ready to start in the premier league?I wonder what team The Don would have put together with this attitude to kids.

I personally believe any team from the 70s would get thrashed by any team in the PL today. Back then players smoked, they never looked after their bodies today’s player is a whole new level when it comes to fitness.I wonder what team The Don would have put together with this attitude to kids.

Sad news shaks.Des O'Connor has died. Another entertainer from my youth, loved the way he never took himself seriously and the way he took the slagging that Morecambe and Wise and Freddie Starr gave him.![]()

You are wise beyond your years young man.Sad news shaks.
Those pre World Wide Web & Internet days when all we had was a television, music, books etc to entertain us were in hindsight halcyon days. In my opinion people were happier and there was certainly a lot less angst in the world. Probably not true as people have always found ways to fight wars on political and religious grounds so maybe it just feels like it now everything with the world appears to be going pear shaped![]()
There's nothing wrong with that. I'm forever watching the repeats of shows like Steptoe and son. On the buses, love thy neighbour, Alf Garnett etc etc because TBH the crap thats on today is ****e. Back in the day when you had three tv stations, so you watched what was on or you kicked a ball outside.... or just a nostalgic old man pining for his youth like the rest of us

There's still plenty of the 'sense of occasion ' in our house milky...I used the word ‘us’ deliberately shaks.
I think the challenge today is too much choice and on demand. The ultimate in convenience has taken away the sense of occasion. You don’t look forward to something on tv, and watch as a family etc, when you can stream it any time.
The Christmas tv ratings wars were part of our childhoods!
I guess that’s why live sports on tv still has a hold, it’s the one exception to the Netflix boxsets concept.

I do not have that man problem. There's still plenty of the 'sense of occasion ' in our house milky...
Like the occasion(s) when I don't load the dishwasher correctly...or don't pick someone up or put it away and the many many occasions when I fail to be a bleedin mindreader.
Live sport is that welcome break from the inadequacies of being a man and therefore essential to making life worth living![]()
That's cos you're a Beast wakeyI do not have that man problem.
