I've got the HTC Desire S, cracking phone!

i have the desire hd and the wife has the zte San Francisco/blade (http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/mobile-phones/?sort=score rated 23rd best smartphone out of 2200 and under £100) which for the price is an incredible phone miles better than the wildfire and a good introduction to the world of android ooh yeah and cheap as fook just need to change the rom to a custom one try somewhere like MoDaCo piece of piss to do

for the price and get rid of the orange bloatware and put a custom rom on and it's really an impressive phone,i was amazed at how good it is got the same processor as some of the more expensive phones so can handle everything the only down side i'd say is no camera flash.
small quibble but can't recommend this highly enough wish i'd got one and saved a fortune cracking phone.
if you're unsure of how to get rid of the bloatware and unlock it you can get them brand new on ebay all done and dusted for around £25 more
just look for phones advertised as rooted and unlocked <ok>

I'm pretty sure battery life is a problem on most smart phones. Mine is down to 70% after 10hrs which is fine if you're not using it, but half an hour on Angry Birds or a few looks at Google Maps and it'll be down to 50%. I take my charger pretty much everywhere so it's not a massive problem, but if I'm out all day and need maps and stuff, it's got no chance.

It's a shame really as there's so much handy stuff to use when you're out and about but if you use it for more than a few minutes you're knackered! My Blackberry battery lasted forever, but that was only because I didn't have a clue how to use it so it was used purely for texting and phone calls.

cannot stress enough you have to get rid of the orange crap it slows the phone right down have a look at that modaco site i posted i'm sure it tells you how to unlock the phone for free great site for any android owner that and tabletroms.com

oh yeah they have a new phone out as well but no custom roms as yet it's called the zte Monte Carlo (better processor etc. but i'd wait till the people at modaco crack it before buying it)

i used to use apps on mine and as soon as i did say like poynt when i was out and about same thing battery drained alot quicker would say it's nowhere near as quick to drain as my htc though
have you played that moron test yet addictive but eats the battery

desire z is the dogs for people like me who hate typing on screen - battery life is crap - have to charge every day but hey - plugging your phone in every night is not really a hassle.

I've been wanting a Desire Z for a year or so, but the hinge problems worry me, and it's getting a bit old now. Waiting for the Xperia Pro to finally launch here, looks pretty much perfect for me. Although I did try out the Xperia Play in a CPW, was surprised at how well it worked, but I need a QWERTY. Also daily charges has been the norm since smartphones started, which is a shame since it was one of the annoyances which turned me against them after my N80...

Get 'SlideIT Keyboard' - makes texting a lot quicker by sliding out words rather than having to tap each letter individually. Think you can trial it for a month or so first then it's only a couple of quid when that runs out. I couldn't go back to having to tap it all out now!

This. My X10 after 3 hours of no use will be down to around 89%, I'll go check facebook and twitter quickly (5 mins tops) and it'll be touching 79% battery and with games it's even worse.
