Yeah, that's right. Methven has, apparently, levelled specific criticism at the fans. The blanket response has been "no, that's not true, he's wrong, he's just a southern toff". Complete denial. No one has gone "what could he mean? Have we caused problems for the owners?" Seems short-sighted to me.

I genuinely don't care if he's from the south of england or Iceland. His position is wrong imo so forgive me for not caring about it.

If that really is a widely held belief in the football world (and I'm not saying it is), surely that is something for us, as fans of the club, to be concerned about.
Who, with anything about them, hears criticism of themselves and doesn't take time to consider their actions?
Much easier to get defensive and claim to have been misrepresented marra

We as fans should care about it as its now been covered by a national newspaper.

Not that it makes it even remotely right but its not doing us any favours
That's what I've been saying. Everyone wants to say that he's wrong, but no one seems to care enough to consider whether what he has said may have a kernel of truth to it. He must think that's the case, or why would he say it?

Personally, I think as a fan base we put up with a lot and certainly don't go the lengths other clubs fans do when they have the hump.

That becomes a double edges sword as it gives an outward perception that we turn quickly on owners managers or players rather than the truth is that it builds over time, but we don't shout it publicly

No one is telling me we are any different to any other fans for wanting better for my club. I've sat through countless relegations, saw the likes of Colin Waldron

I've spent most of my adult life trying to get over the trauma of seeing Colin Waldron "play". Now you've made the memories flood back. How dare you :emoticon-0121-angry

Just kidding <cheers>

I think there is a kernel of truth in it but not convinced that it's more true of us than other groups of fans
I think that's probably right. It's difficult to tell though. I go to a few West Ham games every season (long story) and their fans always seem quite placid with regard to what goes on but then they have the occasional well-documented flare up. I don't know what would be more difficult for owners, consistent low-level griping or big angry protests that only happen occasionally.

Like I said above, i think we tend to do low-level grumbling rather than being particularly vocal. I have thought for a while that there's a bit of fragile atmosphere at home games. Maybe that's what he means?

Possibly, but it's now in the public domain that we have an image issue

I think you're right in the last bit but I think it's got a certain amount of justification

That is very true. And I suppose that's another reason why its a bit odd that everyone just wants to deny it. It's become more of a case of needing to prove him wrong.
For all the amazing away support and the home attendances we will no doubt end up needing to prove him wrong

Tbf, I remember looking at our fanbase closely a few years back and comparing what I could to other clubs supporters. I've never known any other football grounds to empty as quick as ours. Other clubs seem to get the full stadiums behind them for the full game, I was watching people getting up and leaving from the 75th minute and these were games that we were drawing, by the time the 90th minute comes around you can spread right out across the seats. Maybe it's just a northeast issue because the Newcastle supporters are worse again. Mock funerals, shouting at shops, turning on the managers quickly.

Patience and support required not lobbing the toys out the pram and screaming at our players to let them know how **** they're.

The Sunderland Disease?

Christ, I don't care if he even thinks that is true deep down (I've seen some of our fans imply similar) but his only ****ing job wass to get fans onside. He is woefully inadequate to do that job if he can't stop himself insulting fans in documented meetings with fan representatives.

He might as well have walked into the meeting wearing a hazmat suit in case he caught working class.
