Reminds me of a conversation I had at the wet fish stall in North Point market ,(short term visa) just after 'that' vote. The lady serving told me that British fishermen would now have our waters back, I told her that was wishful thinking. The stall closed down for good last month, leaving Hull with just one wet fish shop, to go with just one trawler now. It seems Aneurin Bevan had a vision, This island is made mainly of coal and surrounded by fish. Only an organising genius could produce a shortage of coal and fish at the same time.
Better tell the eco zealots and greens about coal then. Bevan was strongly in favour of a nuclear deterrent as well. Our fishing problems started with the Cod Wars. Hull and Grimsby trawlers weren’t fishing offshore. The biggest culprit was Heath who gave away our fishing waters in his determination to get us in the EEC. Though Wilson was equally determined to get in and would have done the same. Signing up to the EU at Maastricht just made it worse. Funny, lots of delicious seafood, especially from Scotland, of which 90% goes abroad so those langoustines and other things people happily have on holiday in France and Spain but can’t be doing with cooking at home are from the UK. They love hake in Spain and elsewhere but unless it is haddock or cod most aren’t interested. Typical of a country where people put curry sauce on fish.
No politics but didnt Boris sacrifice what was left of our fishing in the desperation to get Brexit over the line? Along with the Good Friday agreement.
Buffalo NY..... up to 77 inches of snow has fallen Friday night / Saturday, the weight of the snow has demolished buildings... Global Warming...?
I am wondering if they will cope better with it than we do with 2 cams when everything grinds to a halt and places close because people can’t get to work?
