I cared in this tournament, but wasn't as gutted when we got beat on pens. Most likely because the game itself was dogshite, but also because i found it far less heartbreaking than getting tanked (geddit) by the Germans

I thought England did quite well. Officially ranked as the 5th best team in the tournament, seems like quite a decent result really, and I'm not sure why everyone is so negative about it.

We're not good enough to win tournaments, but most teams aren't. We still managed to do better than supposedly better teams like Netherlands and France.

I'm kind of disappointed that Hodgson has stayed with the "If Rooney's fit he plays" mentality that Capello had. The team looked far better in the games he didn't play in, and he adds absolutely nothing to the team than any other striker. I'd like to see someone with a bit of pace who could play better with Carroll, as he looked the best of the bunch.

To be fair Rooney is our best striker and best chance of a goal, shame he got that goal on Tuesday rather than tonight when it would have made a difference.

Maybe by pure ability he is but he just doesn't work that well with the team, and that's been true for most of his international career. He's always disappointed when we needed him the most, and he should have to work harder to keep his place in the team.

I wouldn't fault England's lack of passion, or effort. They simply weren't good enough. Hodgson did the best he could with a mediocre side. The only thing I would criticise him for is playing Rooney, who clearly wasn't fit.

I think it was a fair result, as we've been told on more than one occasion this tournament, luck has played a big part in our results, our luck ran out last night.
I'd rather we went out in a penalty shootout at this stage, better than the possibility of a whitewash from a superb German side.

This kind of attitude makes me laugh. "I don't support my country because we're not as good as the other countries" Great attitude, the kind of guy you really want beside you in the trenches. If you don't care Tash why create a fecking thread about it? To wind up those who do care? That doesn't work either because we just look on you with pity for this such a **** weak as water attitude.

Well done England. Taht's as good as we are and we just have to try and improve. The REAL fans with a bit about them will stick with you.

I would never turn my back on a team I support due to a lack of ability.

What frustrates me, and I no doubt speak for the majority of people unhappy with the manner in which we exited the tournament last night is our players seem incapable of the most basic of footballing fundamentals, i.e. passing the ball to a team mate. I don't care if you are Andrea Pirlo or Jamie McClen, as a professional football player you should be able to pass the ball and retain possession without any fuss. The fact we seemed so drained of energy when we did have the ball in any of our games during the tournament is because we seemed content to let the other team keep possession, whilst we wasted our energy pressing. I'm not expecting the likes of Parker, Young and Milner to begin spraying 60 yard passes all over the place but at least find a team mate and let the opposition chase shadows for a while.

Did you even watch the game, or in fact any of the tournament? For the first time in a long time most of the team sung the national anthem, and played pretty ****ing well. It's not a crime to be less technically gifted than players from another nation. What it came down to was a simple gulf in class between the two countries.

I honestly think they played bloody well today against a far superior opposition. They kept trying (not very well, admittedly) when it was obvious they were outclassed. People are always saying we should have lower expectations, and this was the first tournament where this has been the case, and I'd wager many enjoyed it much more for this reason.

Never said it was a crime that other nations have more technically gifted individuals.

Signing the national anthem means **** all. I could sing that, look like to everyone else like I give a ****, but secretly not.

I judge their passion by their effort, body language, and other things I see about the player during the game. Most of the England squad didn't look the slightest bit bothered to me.

I'd love to know who you thought played well last night?

In my opinion, Terry, Johnson and Lescott. That's about it.

Italy were the better team and deserved to go through. Knew as soon as we went into pens there was no way we were going to through.
Hopefully some of the old guard will retire and RH can build for the future, but with Henderson in midfield future doesnt look bright. Him and Downing two lucky boy's going to tournament.

As soon as I saw him warming up thought we were screwed. He's only young but I havent seen anything from him to see him push on.
Thought Milner should have stayed on much much better than Young

I'm not sure, what does Henderson do? Is he a midfield anchor? A playmaker? Box-to-box? Assists the strikers?

This isn't a dig, genuinely don't know his role.

Get your ****ing eyes tested then. That squad gave it everything and just came up short. Stop repeating everything you've read in The Sun newspaper over the last 20 years. We were together, we grafted our bloody bollocks off and came up short against one of the top teams. No shame in that. To then have the likes of yourself claiming the players don't care is just pathetic. They blatantly di care but weren't good enough. To be honest fans like yourself are part of the problem with England.

We've some fine talent beginning to emerge, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Carroll, Wellbeck, the injured Jack Wilshere to name a few, we've a new Manager and I feel Gary Neville has a big part to play.
I'm very optimistic about the future England team, by the time of the next world cup the likes of Rooney, Lescott, Milner will bring the experience that we like to balance the team with.
