Cant see Aluko playing against Barnsleh! If Nick plays well tomorrow then he will surely seriously be pushing for a start on saturday

He needs to start IMO. Simpson needs 50 odd chances before he scores, so we need someone who can be a target man for Sone but also be good in the air and be able to score chances. Prossie's time to step up really.

I just hope he gets the service from our midfield tomorrow

If our first Cup Game against L'Orient was anything to go by, then he won't. Cairney's ball onto his head which lead to the goal was just a wishful punt into the area which shows the poacher that Prossie is, he found the space and ran onto it... iWhich is the sort of striker we need; someone who can make a goal from nothing and end up being in the right area at the right time.

Simpson and Aluko receive the ball way too deep to be effective. Aluko makes up for it as he then beats 2/3 men and gets into a good position but Simpson is beginning to look more and more like a midfielder to me.

Bit harsh on TC

Not really, he did what was needed; he got in the box. Which is what a few of our players are too reluctant to do at times. Granted that there is sometimes nobody to cross it too because our side off the ball don't like moving - especially from throw-ins.

In regards to Tom Cairney, it was the last minute, something needed to be done, if nobody makes themselves available, then just put in the box. Therefore he's done his job, it's then up to the forwards to get on the end of it. Proschwitz did that.

The longer the transfer window remains quiet for us, the more I think we are holding out for Fraizer

Yeah it'll all depend who Sunderland get in, think they've only signed a defensive midfielder upto now which doesn't help. So untill then I think nick should get a run of games

I remember seeing them sign a defensive midfielder, a defender and I've heard from someone at work that they've signed a striker... But I never recall seeing that. I'll do some web surfing now.

Aluko is at his best when he is given a free role in the centre. However, he is incapable of leading the line by himself as he is definitely not an out and out striker. He would profit by having a natural striker like Chris Wood or Danny Graham playing next to him. We should drop Koren deeper into the midfield, as he too would benefit by playing in a slightly deeper role where he would have more space to drive into, and sacrifice Evans for a striker, Simpson/Proschwitz if need be. Now that sounds harsh, due to Evans very good form this season, however it is a change which would benefit the team as a whole.

Great post, Aluko would be brilliant in the role Koren played last Season, just behind the forwards but in front of the midfielders. The only problem is, that if we move Aluko into a midfield role, which other midfielder would you drop?
Evans has been brilliant IMO and I definitely wouldn't drop any of the others.

Sunderland have signed that N'Diaye French U21 forward, made his debut on saturday. So good news for us if were getting FC

I agree with the OP, Aluko's contribution is hardly anything at the moment. I think he's done less than Simpson and Koren in the last couple of months but I think people are reluctant to have a go at him because he's supposedly so talented.

As for Koren, he's been very ineffective up front and his finishing under pressure is just terrible but he's the only one who keeps getting on the end of crosses. It should be a basic skill getting those tap-ins but no one else ever gets there so while Koren is doing that he needs to be in the team. But maybe as a midfielder as he still managed to make that run from midfield on Saturday (Prossy was up front with Aluko by then). We'd also get his long-range threat. The problem then is which midfielder to drop though? Meyler also makes good runs forward and does some dirty work in the middle and Quinn is undroppable (surely?) so that leaves Evans as the obvious choice but then does that mean Meyler has to be the defensive one and would that nullify his attacking threat? Interesting...

I usually agree with you ISTPLT, but to say you doubt that Aluko is talented is just ridiculous. He's recovering from an injury at the moment, and therefore needs to get his match fitness back. There can't be any debate as to what he offers the side because he's been fantastic on the ball and has the ability to beat more than one man. The only reason he was ineffective against Sheffield Wednesday was because their defence were ****ing huge and he isn't exactly the biggest of players. He needs to be up front with a target man though, not with Koren. Koren needs to be dropped back into midfield with Prossie starting up front with Sone.

Meyler going into Evans' position wouldn't be all too bad because Evans does get into good attacking positions too, I don't think it'd effect Meyler's attacking prowess at all really.

It's not that I doubt his ability, just that he doesn't do anything with it. As I keep saying, I haven't seen him beat a man or do anything of note in ages.

Sadly its looking that way With Chris Wood gone. Interesting what SB has said in the past and just brushed off all questions about Wood and Austin when asked in the past by Burnsy. Just as though he does not rate them.

Sunderland look like they are holding onto a hope of landing Danny Graham from Swansea. I doubt they will should Swansea make Wembley.

More of a replacement for Meyler and the injured Cattermole i would suggest.

Just because you agree or disagree with a persons opinion IT does not make it sh.it does it ?

Your well versed in plenty of the brown stuff yourself. <ok>
It depends entirely on the opinion. If they appear to be the only person thinking that opinion, then it may well be ****. ;)
