Billy Whitehurst was the perfect example of PLT's stats not telling the full story argument.

His record with us was 1 in 4, which on paper wasn't amazing, but his impact on the team was enormous, leading to him becoming Newcastle's record signing at nearly £250k in 1985.

He's one of a long list of players who never matched their City record at any club after moving on.

If you look at the statistics, Billy Whitehurst had less than a couple of good seasons but if you knew how to get the best out of him he was very effective.

Look at Campbell's goalscoring record in the Wembley final: 0
but what a pass to Windass!

I couldn't resist watching Deano put that away again. A tear to the eye indeed. Of course then I had to watch all our premiership goals and reminded myself how amazing that Geovanni free kick was. He went around the wall and didn't put it in the 'easy' top corner he bent it all the way around to the impossible one.

pity that players on loan who play well rarely get called back after a change of manager & probably explains why Mannone isn't heading back.

McGregor is a ****ing great keeper, has a naughty edge to him, but not to the detriment of his game, I would be extremely happy if we got him.

Celtic supporters are the bitterest bunch of ****ers I have ever come across.

OLM and Peter, you/we used to have some great, constructive conversations on the old 606, even if you/we didn't always agree.

Fcuk Fraser, he's a cnut anyway

Dogs are much better than cats.....

May I ask, what kind of naughty edge?

for you english folk

He dives to the left,
He dives to the right,
Allan McGregor shags ten birds a night...

top keeper, amen

Dont see this one happening myself. Why pay £1.8m as has been reported to Besiktas when you can get a much better one for Free.? That money should be used and put towards a 2nd goal scorer imo.

Now that Kasper looks like seeing out his contract with Lesta at least and Shay Given being greedy ? maybe ? ,, Lets get Mark Schwarzer in for a season.

The biggest issue with Alan McGregor is that his "well known" off pitch lifestyle is not a good one at all. Very much another Jimmy Bullard unless Steve Bruce keeps him under house arrest during all the non-football hours the players have. As Chester and Rosie has already said, the new players must fit into the squad ethos we now have otherwise 2009/10 could well happen all over again sadly.

basically, he's a top ****ing keeper and we'd be lucky to have him <ok> plus he knows aluko

I agree that would be a lot for a No. 2 keeper if we were still in the Championship, but I think we are going to have to pay a fair bit for a capable one in the EPL.

Not totally. "IF" this McGregor story is indeed true and happens then we can still get in Mark Schwarzer for a season and that would be very good business. We need an experienced PL gk for next season which Schwarzer is and McGregor is not. In fact McGregor only played 7 times last season for Besiktas in turkey of all places ffs. imo, Schwarzer for the short term and McGregor for the long term especially if it gets Aluko to sign a new long term deal with Hull City.

We're not going to spend £1.8m on a No.2 keeper, if we spend anything like that, he'll be our No.1.

Mark Schwarzer and Alan McGregor for a combined transfer fee outlay of £1.8m actually is very good business for the PL.

TWT as always.

You've gotta love SB and I bet he had the biggest tits on that beach.

Man boobs,, Man boobs are what they are. Nice tan by the way SB looks to have got.

I love how people are moaning about our future squad 2 months before the season.

Indeed. All we have done to last seasons squad is Cut/Remove the deadwood froim it. Nothing new has yet been added, Officially yet.!!!

Aluko and McGregor - who's next? Lafferty??? <laugh><applause>

Gary Hooper. That would choke many Celtic jocks. We could offer U21 scottish international Tom Cairney as a part of the Hooper deal ? At least TC has played and looked good in the PL previously. Hooper has yet to do both. Lol.

Not yet at least. I suspect that gk coach Gary Walsh still has Vito in mind. We could also be waiting until Arsenal allows Vito to leave for nowt or next to nowt in the future.
