I have to say, I was knobbed off when he tried to change the name of the club, just like everybody else. It made zero sense and it felt like it was being done on some kind of power trip. That sadly is what I'll remember him for, telling us to die when we want. But through all that and reflecting on the years at the club, as an owner he left us on a sound financial footing, which many previous owners can't say they did. For a man who knew nothing about football (evident by the fiasco of the name change), he certainly delivered the best times I've witnessed at Hull City; seeing us play in European qualifiers, having the likes of Hatem Ben (Arf!)a, Abel Hernandez, Harry Maguire, Andy Robertson, Gaston Ramirez, Elmo, Michael Dawson, Andrea Rannochia, Kamil Grosicki, Ryan Mason, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore play in a black and amber shirt really has been understated. To produce youngsters such as Jarrod Bowen and KLP who we sold for big money and to nurture the talent of the likes of Clark, Greaves, Fleming, Batty, McKenzie, Mannion, Cartwright, Bonds and Smith, all of who play in the EFL shows that despite not having much footballing knowledge, he built a network around him that did.
Outside of football, his work in the city and his philanthropy cannot be questioned. What he did for this City out of his own hard earned was nothing short of amazing and who knows the number of lives he helped to improve. That has to be applauded, die hard City fan or not.
