He sounds like a good fit in terms of personality which is very important. I like the comments about self assuredness.

There is no real evidence he is capable of managing at this level however, but, unlike Adams you can maybe see something in him that might work.

I genuinely don't think McNallys picked him as a cheap option, he must have seen something in him through interview he really likes.

Have no idea how he plays the game but being Scottish doesn't fill me with much confidence,

I agree with most of this Carrabuh (except the Scottish bit). This is a move that has been heavily researched one would think. The Accies fans suggest high-tempo (bless the lord after Adams boring tippy tappy stuff), passing football. Never say die attitude drilled into his players (though being young 'uns its easier to get that mentality). His team is never satisfied with a lead, always look for more. No more evidenced than in this game from last season! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27168757

This is definitely not the product of 48 hours worth of searching, if the reports about McNally's pretty much instant flight to Edinburgh are true then this was planned. I think this would have happened after Reading (the first time) but he wanted to continue playing, so it has to happen in January hence Adams is forced out pretty much as the window opens.

I think far more has gone on behind the scenes than has been said. I very much doubt McNally would have made a move without seeing a couple of steps ahead.

Yep. I think most felt the Reading game was going to be the 'final nail'. Perhaps it wasn't on the day, but it definitely heralded his exit.

Happy with this, all the soundbites coming South seem positive, be interesting to see whether Phelan and Holt stay on as assistants, or whether they get the boot as well. This could just be another ´bunny out of the hat´ appointment from McNally, if we´re lucky, we could certainly do with it .

If this comes off, I think I'd call myself cautiously optimistic.

Warnock was my shout from the initial names, because I thought he'd be the closest thing to a guaranteed playoff spot, and has experience of going up that way. I didn't see him as a long-term appointment though.

I think what excites me most about this appointment is that it strikes me as McNally getting his man. Hughton was the 'obvious' appointment, Adams I still suspect Delia's involvement in.

This move has come too quickly for McNally to have not already known who was top of his shortlist. I suspect he started the search back in November, and only pushed Adams into resignation once he'd identified who he wanted.

We'll see if he's got the right man, but the initial signs from his limited career are promising to me. Looks a better appointment than Adams at least.

Edit: it appears I've just echoed other people who posted whilst I was typing!

I can't see Neil playing. I suspect that was just a technicality due to him being registered with Hamilton.

While I agree that I don't think he is the cheap option per se, I hope that he is relatively speaking cheap! Would be madness to take a high risk like this and then pay him a fortune as well. Obbviously he will get a substantal salary increase on Hamilton, but still...

I think he is on a rolling contract due to expire in Aug 2015 , (not sure if anyone posted this but I can't be arsed to trawl back the last few pages)so I can't see it being too much $.

I have a feeling that Phelan will stay as coach, especially if Neil is to play

Is Phelan really going to want to work under a 33 year old after possibly being snubbed for the No 1 job? I don't think so.

I cannot imagine Neil is going to be playing for us, not as a core player anyway. I think this is probably my biggest concern, has he had success because he's led on the pitch with a bunch of youngsters who are probably inferior quality to himself. Is that going to work when he has better player alongside him and better players on the bench where perhaps he should be. It is a concern as to how this element will work.

I'm very up and down on this decision and if you look at it logically there are probably alot more reasons to be sceptical that this will work out because the unknown and inexperienced elements are quite prominant.

Do rolling contracts have an expiry date, or is it just 12 months compensation whenever the contract is ended, and they run indefinitely?

I don't see him playing at all, we're well stocked for significantly better midfielders, any sign of him on the pitch would raise alarms for me.

the more i read on him the more im liking this, my only concern is his age, our players have shown already that they can very easily slip into being complacent and with him being so young its hard to imagine that they will 'look up' to him... but lets see.

I remember feeling totally underwhelmed when Lambert was signed and that was best thing to happen to us for a very long time ...exciting times

The only answer that I can give, totally unhelpfully, is it depends on the wording of the contract...

My guess, logically, is that it is a combo of both with break provisions.

He's actually not played that much whilst he's been manager. I don't think that should be a concern.

Just saw an interview with Neil, he's harder to understand than Lambert was, but sounds and talks like a man who would be terrifying to piss off.

If there's one thing our squad need it's someone who's not going to listen to bullshit.

Although he's 33, we don't actually have many players in their thirties, and most of those are loanees.
