Edmonton but originally from Horden
not football related. But we are thinking of moving back to England and Horden is not an option. It would be nice to be close to Sunderland though. Whats the best area around there nowadays as its been afew years since I have lived close by?

For that matter, what is the best area in the north east to live and why?
 
Ashbrooke is nice in Sunderland and Seaburn is lovely too imo; Durham City is the most beautiful city in England imo and a place very close to my heart.

Chester le Street is the playground of the Gods though. Lol
 
Dunno if you class York as North East (a lot of Sunderland fans here!!) but I feel that here is best. We have a direct train to Sunderland! Failing that, you can't go wrong with Durham.
 
There is some lovely areas to live in Sunderland, personally I like Moorside and Herrington, but Fullwell and Seaburn are nice too..
 
As an SR6 lad, I can say, with no bias, that anyone who lives anywhere but Seaburn or Fullwell, lives in the wrong place.

This doesn't apply to ex-pats like.

I moved to Ellington about 13 years ago, only 30 miles from Sunderland, I get the best of all worlds. Village easy going lifesyle, but only 4 miles from Ashington, shopping etc, and good bands on a nightime. I visit my son in Sunderland a couple of times a week, my doctor is still on Chester Road, opposite the General Hospital, I get physio every 2 weeks at Grindon lane.

Ellington to Sunderland 30 mins via the tyne tunnel, £1.40. Half black and white, half Red and white, bearing in mind that this was a mining community, drawing men from the Durham and Northumberland coalfields. But mate, you have got to find your own Shangri La. nobody can find that for you, but I wish you every success in your endevours. and the best of luck.
 
There are also some great properties in Ryhope, just down from the hospitals, where some of our players have lived over the years..God's country that is..
 
We're all biased here and will say where we live is best! I live in Tynemouth, right on the coast, and like Bill says its a short drive through the Tyne Tunnel to the SoL. Closer to Sunderland I have always liked Whitburn and Seaburn, and of course Durham is lovely too, as others have said.

I guess it depends what facilities you need for you and your family, and the reasons why you are thinking of coming back.

Have you had a look at property sites like Rightmove.co.uk and Zoopla? They show houses for sale on a map view and you can look at each house using google street view to get the idea of what the local area is like. From google maps you can also 'show my nearest....' and find doctors, shops, schools and pubs, depending what is most important to you. Hope this helps!
 
Hetton le Hole is by fay the poshest area to live. We all eat caviar for breakfast, walk around in tuxes and only drink the finest champagne. If thats too posh for you then Durham is the bee's knee's to visit but not really to live in but good and bad everywhere tbh.

yeh cest Chester le street will do although if you have money Durham city itself although very expensive is superb <bubbly>
 
Cardboard box in't middle of't road lad , next place in't middle of't te'h lake lad bloody luxury... no intent bonny lad but stay where you's are . unless war lass wast's tee.ktf.. lol
 
Going to depend on your budget, South Bents is nice.

My mate moved there a while back for £700,000 !!!!!!!!

Mind his house is a topper. <ok>
