My view, is not to speculate on such matters.

I don't think I'm too mistaken in saying that, there's been nothing quoted from the player and we have not had an official statement from this club.

I would not be hiding behind 'if(s)' whilst nailing a mans bollocks to the plank.

For what its worth., thats my view. :)

I think my use of the word 'if' was intended to avoid exactly what you just said, nailing his bollocks to a plank. Which is hardly what I would use to describe my speculation on the matter by the way. I've spent the last week or so defending the man on here.

Indeed we have not had an official statement, I'm assuming that is because the club would rather not make a huge issue out of it. Sky reported the story with quotes from AVB post match, whether they are true or not who knows.

I'm sure there are plenty of people speculating on matters around the forum, so you will have a busy evening.

There was never an official statement from the club when Prince-Boateng received a record number of fines. There was never an official statement from the club when Jamie O'hara was fined 2 weeks wages for assaulting a team mate.

If any disciplinary measures became public, we'd all be narked. Credit to the club for keeping this one out of the media.

Couldn't agree more.

Credit to the club for keeping them all out of the Media., I'd say.

For me, this subject was actually put to bed Saturday afternoon. Don't worry, I will not be busying myshelf with 'if(s)' anymore on this issue.

Weird it seems to have disappeared. I definitely read the article though

The only recent article I can find on Ade is the lazy 'journo-with-a-grudge' article on the 20th......

Journos generally piss me off across the board these days. As someone once sang, "a newsworth (bad journo) lives by his pen, may I suggest it's likely that he lives in one then'...... Pretty much sums the pigs up!!

* Weekend quiz - a prize for anyone who can name that :emoticon-0159-music song....... <bubbly>

From the BBC website - and based on the fact that the Beeb seldom create their own reports, rather relying on others, this is probably extracted from the ES article referred to.....

FOOTBALL
Emmanuel Adebayor insists poor organisation by the Togo Football Federation, and not his own laziness, was the reason behind his late return to Tottenham following the African Nations Cup.

"I couldn't just abandon my team," he said. "We went to the quarter-finals of African Nations Cup, which was historical for my country.

"I could not just jump on a plane and come back to Tottenham, because the president of the country wanted to see us and congratulate us. I am the captain so I have to be there. So that's what I did. Then I got the flight the club sent to me."

Works for me

Emmanuel Adebayor: I’m desperate to finally put one over Arsenal

Striker wants to prove he was right to join Tottenham

Emmanuel Adebayor believes his decision to leave Arsenal will finally be vindicated if Tottenham beat their north London rivals to Champions League qualification.

The forward will try to make up for his early red card in the derby last November — which the Gunners went on to win 5-2 — by helping Tottenham beat their rivals at White Hart Lane next weekend and strike an important blow in the race for a top-four finish.

Adebayor left Arsenal in 2009 to join Manchester City, before moving to Spurs permanently last summer following a season-long loan spell.

The 28-year-old has yet to find top form this season but after showing flickers of his best in the second half of last night’s 1-1 draw in Lyon, which set up a Europa League last-16 tie with Inter Milan, Adebayor is determined to put one over on his old club.

“It’s getting better for us every season and we have to find a way to finish in the top four, especially me,” said Adebayor. “It’s a big opportunity to show people I was right to leave Arsenal, which means finishing above them.

“We have a great chance this season to finish above them and we have to take it. Everyone knows there is a big rivalry between the two clubs.

“You know what happened last year, when it went to the final day but they finished above us. We can’t make the same mistake again.

“I’m getting back to my best and last night I was quite happy with the way I played. The most important thing is to get my form back. Physically I’m looking better and when I’m good physically, I know the rest will follow.”

Adebayor has scored only three times for his club during a season he regards as one of the toughest of his career.

Complicated negotiations for his permanent transfer to Spurs denied him a pre-season with his new club. Thereafter there were injuries, a loss of form, the red card against Arsenal and the uncertainty of whether he would play for Togo in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Adebayor took part after a late change of heart but then left Spurs exasperated when he returned to London less than 24 hours before their home game with Newcastle on February 9 — even though Togo were knocked out of the tournament in South Africa on February 3.

At the Stade Gerland last night, Adebayor insisted his late return was due to poor organisation from the Togo football authorities, whom, he claimed, took too long to provide a plane on which the team could leave South Africa. Adebayor also spoke of his sense of duty to the compatriots he captained.

“I could have got a private jet to come back to London but I didn’t want to abandon my team,” Adebayor revealed. “As a captain, it’s not a good example. I couldn’t abandon the ship.

“It took four days for them to send a plane to get us out of South Africa and back to Togo. It’s not like it was for other teams, whose federations sent planes to get them back to their clubs straight away.

“The president of Togo then wanted to see us and congratulate us for getting to the quarter-finals, so I couldn’t just jump on a plane straight back to London. I’m the captain, so I had to be there.

“You want to be able to concentrate on football but that’s never the case with Togo. People can have their own opinions but players got a lot of time off after the European Championship.

“The Africa Cup of Nations is a tough tournament, with different weather, food and culture. When you come back to England, you’re going from playing in very hot temperatures to playing in minus-three, minus-four degrees.

“I came back and people started blaming me, so it’s not easy.”

Spurs’ progress in the Europa League has delighted head coach Andre Villas-Boas but Adebayor fears it will make the job of finishing in the top four more difficult. He added: “It will make it complicated but when you get to this stage you want to win the competition.”

Positive article - in fact the first and only verbatim article since his return.
He did okay the other night, his first touch was much improved and he worked hard for the team - so lets just hope he is, as he says, getting back to his best, cos we need him!!

Ade, maybe if you wanted to perform for your own personal standards, rather then just to "prove" something to the gooners then your form wouldn't be so poor.

Frustrating for the club, but his reasons for late return seem legit enough, typical for a figurehead in Africa (Togo president) to throw in an unscheduled request everyone has to drop everything and bow to. As far as etiquette in that culture goes, it would have been highly insulting if Ade, as figurehead of the team, had not been there. A pain, but fair enough.
