My feelings, too, Thai. I know I'm over-reacting, and as the days go by I won't feel like this (I hope), but I can see the next five to ten years of my football club flash by. I am even suspecting we may do a Wolves. Before Dorset and others tell me not to be so melodramatic, let me say I recognise my over-reaction. I just need to share it (which I also recognise is rather pathetic). Maybe we were turned down by Lennon and Mackay, and so we had no choice in the end but to go with the guy we obviously didn't want, but do we really pay one million a year for someone to come up with such an unimaginative list of candidates?
When we appointed Lambert mine and that of my family's reaction was "who the **** is he!" Never heard of him ! I didn't even realise he was the manager of the team who had just spanked us 7-1 until it was on the news ! Same old City doing it on the cheap again was my dad's first comment. Mine to if I'm honest. Then Hughton, I'd hoped and prayed it would be him and then 10 months later I couldn't believe what I'd prayed for ! So I for one will be behind Adams from the start he could be the next big thing?
I was out with some mates in the pub last night and got home around midnight to see the SHOCK news that NA had been appointed (can't believe no one in the pub was talking about it!!!!). Have read through some of the posts (I've got a life to live as well!!) and all seem as underwhelmed as myself. I tend to agree that Malky was probably first choice, but the board was unwilling to meet his demands and so we end up with the man who was our youth team coach. My only hope is that the feeling of disappointment voiced by most contributors both here and the EDP website will be dispelled by the 'attacking football' we're being promised - my worry is what does he plan to do about the huge negative goal difference we suffered last season and especially how many 'soft' goals we conceded. Let's hope we get off to a flying start and I expect Guru and JWM must have got out the champagne when the news broke last night - on second thoughts, they just have gone down the pub and got totally pi55ed!!!
Was definitely a little deflated last night, but looking at it again today I feel different. Relegation put an end to any chance of Lennon coming here. Zola? No thanks! If Mackay was stalling on the possibility of other offers, as has been mooted, then feck him. We wanted someone who is committed to this great club. We've got him. We can't spend the Summer moaning about it, it's time to put any disappointments aside and get behind him. Good luck Neil.
After the innitial feeling of shock I for one cannot wait for August. Im getting a bit fed up already with doom and gloom and a ball hasnt even been kicked. First half a dozen games will be huge for NA but im prepared to give him a chance. CITY TILL I DIE!!!
I'm not writing him off, he could be very good. The problem is that is hard to imagine out of all the possibilities, NA topped the list or was even near the top. I have no widh to condemn him before he starts, and to be fair, my annoyance is not directed towards NA, but to the board who do not appear to have pulled out all the stops to try and ensure a rapid return to the PL. To then appoint a very medicocre assitant to NA makes matters worse, but then who else could they appoint when the manager has a non existent reputation.
Simon Thomas tweeted this few hours ago 'As I understand it Malky Mackay walked away from the opportunity to manage #NCFC because he wouldn't work with a technical director.' If true then I think that's fair enough reason for not wanting the job.
Hate to beg to differ Drunky, but at the recently ended Press Conference, McNally is quoted as saying the following: " Neil was the first person to be offered the job, nobody has turned down the job "
They would've sounded them out and know the likely responses. You can't have someone turn the job down - how would that look afterwards. There is just no way NA was first choice. But yes, I imagine he was the only one to get a papers-ready-to-sign offer.
Both could be true. We may not have ever got to the position of offering Malky something because of that hurdle. It's fairly fundamental. Whoever they turn out to be, this technical director had better be bloody good. If we've turned Malky away just to appoint someone inexperienced, internal and/or uninspiring, then I'm going to be incredibly disappointed with the board.
