i think you're being over the top. the credit crunch had a major effect on all businesses around the world and happened after bartlett had taken over. the credit crunch affected all bartlett's businesses badly. without it he wouldn't have needed to have his companies tied in knots lending to each other. as for ghilas it may well have been a case of anything being better than nothing in a hurry.
AP's departure is still a complete mystery but something has obviously gone on and he and the owners have fallen out. Knowing what they are like at dealing with people who don't agree with them, I'm inclined to think it'll be something really stupid and they had a just old fashioned row about it. His loss will be significant off the pitch but what he has been doing for us over the past few years isn't obvious to everyone. Whether he or Nick will be the bigger loss is hard to say.
Sorry to say but Russell Bartletts property portfolio was not suffering. He had the Home Office as a tenant, they where taking more office space in the 6 months up to July. Every square foot of his portfolio was tenanted. Why was he interested in Cardiff, West Ham and then Hull? Someone who has a property development business, my my, does the sale of the KC come into anything?
Yes, they do What do I know? Just what we all know about the council, both managers that have worked under the Allams, AP, Maguire and half the club staff who they have made redundant.
Yes, but what about any unreasonable sackings? That's sackings without good reason. Peter Sutcliffe was probably pissed off about losing his job as a lorry driver, but I don't think you would call it unreasonable.
To be fair the club staff did need a trim or 2. I have no issue with any employer cutting chaff as liong as they keep the wheat. Maguire also was no real loss,, imo.
Assem Allam has had to sack loads of workers in his time, but that is because of his career choice and little to do with his personal taste. Of all of the business backgrounds his is one of the best suited to owning a football club that has money problems. The modern term for his business method is "Turnaround Management". When a business is failing the banks call in suitably qualified managers to look at the business, cut costs, refinance and increase profitability. Assem took this a stage further when he aquired the marine generator business. But it is a hard business, the first cost cutting is nearly always in jobs. Workers may have to change the hours they work and the jobs they do. This is normal business practice, something that happens everyday in every town and city in the world. There are no safe places when it comes to a business. So dont slate the businessmen who get companies back on track, slate the ones who drove the business off the rails in the first place.
No, you just have. I pointed out that not all sackings are unreasonable, even if the person sacked is unhappy. People on here can "Demonise" the Allams without actually comparing them to the Devil. Just a figure of speach.
That wasn't aimed at NB - it was aimed at AP, PD and whoever else was responsible for agreeing to those deals
Is it just me that thinks this is as simple as they wanted shot of Barmby for footballing reasons*, but saw the media comments as a way of getting rid without paying compensation as they could run it as breach of contract? *That's not saying the footballing reasons are correct, just that after being prepared to fund certain players in January (and not others) but being knocked back because he didn't want them the expectation became the playoffs as a minimum, and Barmby failed to deliver that so they decided to replace him.
I don't understand why people expected us to be paying an experianced Championship striker a small amount. He was brought in to be one of our 3 main strikers to address a specific lack of physical presence/aerial threat. It was getting on for 10 years later and 2 divisions higher than when we had a stated wage cap of £3k/wk for all new signings in D3. EDIT: The Simpson deal was more of a gamble, but I'd actually have supported it when we signed him because he had the track record from at QPR and to find a goalscorer at this level with virtually no transfer fee and for about £500k a year would have been an amazing capture for us.
I think you're right. I don't think the Allams ever wanted NB to be manager, but AP persuaded them otherwise. I think they wanted Robinson from MKD when NP left + I wouldn't be surprised if they now went for him again (though he wouldn't be my choice)
I doubt they wanted Robinson when Pearson left. Do you really believe that are that naive to not have had a major input into the most important position in the club
Depends how much finance was part of the thinking. NB was one of the lowest paid managers in the Championship + he didn't complain as he thought it an honour to manage the team. Balance that against the cost of whatever we would have had to pay MKD's to release Robinson (provided he had no get out clause), his salary, any backroom staff he would have insisted on and maybe the Allams baulked at the deal.
