So what makes you think he'll be a success? Have you seen him play? Had you heard of him before this morning? Has he got a good record when he's not injured. I can't put my finger on where you're getting your optimism.
Who's writing him off? I'm merely suggesting his previous record shows him to be injury prone with a very poor scoring record & asking, based on that evidence: apart from hope (which we all have), what evidence is there to suggest he'll be a success. If you have none, say none.

I've seen him play dozens of times and although not writing him off, I'd rather have Long or Rhodes.
I do wonder if wages are a factor here, he'll be on 50% less than either of those.

What you have said is right RE evidence etc but lets face it, who else could we go for? It's a risk, certainly, but I think it's a risk well worth taking. Who knows, he may be a beast in the BPL and sell on for 20million in a season or two?

Would that suggest he's coming as a back up for Aluko?
My (possibly blinkered) view of footballers & their agents is that if he's coming they'll be asking for top money.

Rhodes is a player I've followed for a while. Whichever PL team eventually gets him will get an exceptional player. I believe if we'd bought him now he'd have a sell on value of £25-£30m in a couple of seasons.
Well Brucey was asked about Martinez in his press conference and his reaction gave it all away and he said were very close to a big striker signing.
Can't think of any other strikers called Martinez' we'd be interested in.
