Can we not let this descend into yet another argument please. Rise above the rather silly, inflammatory title to it. Speaking on football terms, which is why we're here, I would think selling Rickie would be rather sad and also a year too early. He deserves his shot at the PL, not just for nostalgic reasons, but mainly because there's every chance he can do an excellent job leading the line in a 4-3-2-1 formation. I'd prefer to see him in that position right now with Mayuka / Ramirez (fingers crossed) sitting behind than J-Rod.
The fact is we don't need to sell anyone. If we do it's becuase NC and Nigel don't think theuy will add anything to the team or squad. Ceratinly not the case with Rickie so unless the player himself wants out can't see it happening.
Everybody knows that Godders has his mood swings, he's in one of his Victor Meldrew moods at the moment obviously. You just have to ignore it like you ignore casual racism from your gran after she's had a few too many sherries on christmas day.
I'm with you Godders. This board is total garbage now. Seems to have gone rapidly down hill since I joined. Coincidence? Anyway, this is my last post. I'm off to do something constructive with my time.
Lff, I can't see this bad air continuing for too much longer, somethings got to give. Check back again after some time.
True Hisotry, though I suspect the close of the transfer window will see less visitors to the site and less frantic excitement over possible transfers and more of a return to the usual proceedings of a football forum. Happens every year. 606 just filtered most of it out unlike not606.
What do you think has triggered the sudden interest? Was it because he didn't start at Citeh, or was it because of the goal he scored, we all were told he wouldn't hack it in the Premier, too early to say, but that goal said volumes. We have no alternative ball winner up front, and who will take the penalties? One player doesn't make a team, but some are more influential than others, not only in a football sense.
That is what I was wondering. Saturday was difficult to judge as it was the first time that I'd seen the team in the Prem and there was some adjusting. Rickie showed some great touches and that he still has that eye to turn and try and get a shot off, however, I felt that the Wigan defenders didn't really get posed any real problems by him. I hope nothing has happened we don't know about, but I do wonder if something has been said and maybe there is someone out there trying to find him a club. I did think that Di Santos' (spelling?) movement for Wigan was excellent and maybe NA wants that type of movement from Rickie? Having said all that, could be just lazy journalism... "Lambert's namesake, there's a story"
Lambert won't be going anywhere, surely. And FYI: Pretty much all of the chaos has been happening on the "My View" thread. All the other threads appear to be happily on-topic, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
Can't see why we would sell him unless Adkins feels that he doesn't fit into the system he wants to play now. Hypothetically speaking, if he had been told that his chances are limited as we are playing a different system, maybe Villa would be an attractive option for him. Particuarly if he was told that he would start all the time and would be utilised like Grant Holt was at Norwich last year. I hope we keep him but we seem to be constantly increasing our attacking options so maybe someone will leave so we aren't top heavy up front.
It's ok, Godders is allowed to post what he wants. The mods won't want to upset him or his imaginary wife.
Why would they need to be a tool. If a stupid price came in or if Nigel thinks he has covered the position with his purchases then I would sell.
Head over heart, this topic deserves a sensible and serious discussion. He doesn't really fit into the new system, which we'll need to get used to if we're to become mainstays of the PL. There's also the issue of a player, particularly an older one, becoming too influential. Just look at Steven Gerrard and Liverpool. Liverpool players look to Gerrard for inspiration and a few years ago he'd be happy to oblige. Right now, he's not the player he once was and can't lift the burden on his shoulders. The same is happening to the old guard at Man U and their new generation aren't stepping up fast enough. I'd hate for Lambert to go the same way for us. Let him go out on a high and let someone else deal with a player in his twilight years. Arsenal sold Henry at a good time and have sold Van Persie at a good time too. I reckon they'll finish strongly and clinch 4th again. Chelsea have splashed the cash to fill the boots of their old guard and it looks like paying off for them. If they'd stopped to think about replacing aging stars sooner though, they could have saved a lot of money by signing less illustrious players who they could turn into influential players. Lambert I reckon will have a good season, but I'd need a great deal of resolve to turn down an offer of 5 times what we bought him for. Before pre-season, I thought the 433 was just something in my head, but now we're actually using it, I am starting to wonder where Lambert stands.
