Dutch - First poll I've voted on and I was surprised about the being able to change your vote thing, but after the way you've just described it, I like it!
 
i know his name and what he is said to have been and done - but i want to be sure in exactly what he did at the FA

From the brief time i spent looking he was secretary at the FA and drafted the LAWS
now what does that mean precisely ?

Did he create the modern laws or merely write them in an orderly fashion ?
What i mean is in the beginning the laws were agreed upon by all different FA members and some non members ,
so was his job a bit more hum drum than what i excitingly think he did ???

before anyone jumps on my question , im not trying to belittle his achievents , i want to understand them - ta x


IF so then go with Cobb Morley - If not a past hero Windass springs to mind as he did take us to the Prem (regardless of his wallyness recently)

He's known the The Father Of The FA, he wrote the rules of the game himself and formed the FA.

Morley was a big advocate of outlawing 'hacking' of the shins, which others wanted to allow.
 
Cobb Morley wrote the first set of rules for the Association. This was because at the time different clubs played by different rules. The game would start by teams agreeing what rules they would play by. Some games were played under the two goal rule, the first team to score two goals won.The unifying of the rules caused some separation between clubs and the result is still seen in the differences between Rugby League, Rugby Union and Association Football.
Hull was not the birthplace of the FA, simply the birth place of the man who wrote the first set of rules and who became the first president of the FA. Hull City has no connection with Cobb Morley and to link him with the team really is stretching history. Whilst I like the idea of celebrating his memory, it really has nothing to do with Hull City.

We're a Hull club and should be proud of anything Hull related. All this 'It's nothing to do with us' sounds like the ramblings of Allam or Geraghty trying to distance the club and city from one another. Whether they like it or not this is a Hull team.
 
It's really pleasing to see the interest in all of the choices.

Rather than argue over which to have, what about thinking of a further collection for some or all of the other options? The vote could be a way of prioritising.

The hard part this time round would be setting up the account for donations, as I suspect that the one kindly lent to us previously will be in use by Hull City Southern Supporters.

Why are you trying to bring Assem Allam and Geraghty into this? The banner idea was to show support for the manager and the team. Now if you can show me that a banner with his image on it is in anyway showing support for the team I challenge you to do it. It would be a decoration not a declaration.

I am not saying Cobb Morley has nothing to do with us, I am saying he has nothing to do with showing support for the team and manager.

Actually lets go ahead and do it, lets celebrate the man who saw that change was needed and developed Association football, discarding all of the historic rules and introducing a new way forward, much to the disgust of others. His changes saw divisions that endure to this day. It could be said that Cobb Morley has more in common with Assem Allam than you think!

Except Hull City play the game he wrote the first set of rules for, just like every other association football club. No other football club can claim he was born in their city/town/village except us.

But how does a banner to him show support to the team?

It may be drivel and it may be appear that I do not like the idea behind honouring him for what he did and reminding in everyone that he came form Hull, but that is not the case. My point is that the idea behind the banner was to so support for the team and manager. Hull City where not a founding club, Cobb Morley was not involved in the club and as he was 73 when Hull City was formed , I doubt that he was ever a player.

Have a banner to him by all means, but can anyone tell me how it shows support for the team?
