We really need to win this to avoid dropping into the bottom three spots. In fact we need to win every home game against the teams that are going to finish in the bottom half.Assuming that we are in the bottom half that means nine home wins =27 points. We've already dropped four of those against QPR and Hammers.
A win on Saturday will just settle the nerves all round and with the following fixtures it is pretty important too.
we only won 7 home games last year and finished on 47 points agree we want to be winning this game if possible but liverpool are no pushovers. they've been a bit like us so far. played pretty well but not got the results to go with the performances. it doesn't matter if we are in the bottom 3 at any stage this season, so long as we are not at the end of may. no need for worrying if we don't win on saturday.
You are correct, if we didn't win Saturday I still wouldn't be worried. Wouldn't stop an avalanche, and I mean "day after tomorrow" wrath of god avalanche of worrying and negativity that will come our way if not. If we draw it'll be "boring Hughton going for the draw" ... I despair sometimes...
beefy, i was about to start a thread about why nobody has mentioned james vaughan yet... i'm too late!
To be honest I thought Liverpool played very well against a poor Man U side and were just unlucky on the day. Having said that I'd like you to beat them just because there's something so smug about Brendan Rodgers that I can't stand the bloke. Bottom 3 after 5 / 6 games doesn't mean too much. We should have caned Spurs but didn't and now need a result gainst West Ham. One win at this stage gets you straight to mid table so fear ye not. The only problem I forsee is the longer a team goes without a win the more the doubt and nerves creep in. Stick with it, Hughtons a good bloke / manager but more conservative than Lambert maybe and hence the focus on conceding less and not scoring more?
totally with you on rodgers. i've long said i think he'll be found out. i didn't see the latest episode of 'being: liverpool' (the first one bored me to death) but apparently he came across like david brent last night. i wasn't surprised when i heard that. he's a charlatan in my opinion.
good post. yes hughton has focused on our defence so far. nobody is hiting the panic button yet. I think there will be 3 weaker teams than both QPR and Norwich come the end of season. Although Lawro is hell-bent on dooming us already if you saw his analysis of the 'gaping' gaps in our defence on Sunday. Tool.
yes, those 'gaping gaps' which haven't been seen since the fulham game or indeed at any other point other than that one incident on sunday which we got punished for. defensively we're sound - lawro tells us otherwise...
I think we need to be very careful before we start talking about Liverpool being "there for the taking" on Saturday, or even of giving Scunthorpe "a mauling" tomorrow night. For large parts of the game on Sunday Liverpool were comfortably the better side against ManUre even playing most of it with ten men, and they have players of absolute undoubted quality, all in need of proving a point and with the potential to do us a lot of damage if we're not on our game for the 90 minutes. And Scunny are currently on a four match unbeaten run and will be looking to take the scalp of a team (us) that they are probably considering as being "there for the taking" after the luke warm start we've made to the campaign. Totally agree that it would be far from a disaster if we didn't win on saturday, a point would be far from a bad outcome for us and if we managed to take all three points it would be one of the better results we have achieved for sometime
What a pillock - I'll go and get me coat again Apart from the four game unbeaten run (Donny are three games unbeaten) the sentiment remains the same however
Yep - the M18 is a fast road so only takes 20 odd minutes. Bout the same distance as Norwich to Yarmouth but unfortunately the A47 isnt a fast road
