The 2010 one with the FDuct was brilliant. a more brighter chromium than the others. almost like diamonds <ok>

Otherwise the Mclaren livery is a boring old hat done over and over. Change the record <ok>

You could say that about Ferrari red

And Red-Bull + Torro-Rosso

I did think that but they do change sometimes
Ferrari

And the STR I agree is boring same old.... Nothing like the great Minardi Liveries <cry>

for me McLaren are Marlboro red and white, but my favorite liveries were the Benettons, I think the 86 Benetton was my all time fave with it's paint dashes and coloured tyre walls, although the 87 Benetton was another brightly coloured car. Racing cars SHOULD be brightly coloured IMO.

In terms of pure aesthetics, I preferred the older, lower rear wings. From a functional point of view, these also produced less drag than today's 'boxes'. That said, I have never been fond of anything which intrudes upon (or extrudes from) the underlying flow of bodywork, such as 'dumbo ears' stuck onto noses, etc.; the only possible exception being McLaren's air-box winglets, as seen on the '21 and '22: the 2006/7 models.

I was never a fan of grooved tyres though, and always thought it a shame that cars of the mid-noughties were never unleashed with proper slicks.

Having said all this, such comparisons can sometimes be more to do with photographic skills, and as such, I have no hesitation in nominating the shot of JPMontoya in 2006, sadly in his final
* F1 year.

I hope I may be forgiven for this brief diversion, but it is the right moment to speak of Montoya's untimely exit from F1…

Off-topic. Opinion.
I believe JPM's decision to quit F1 was the result of a combination of three things.

 • F1's politics in general, which formed an undertone: a cake which would only need icing…
 • The icing: on top of this cake, he now felt shafted by Ron Dennis.
 • Arriving at a premature conclusion, as a reaction to point 2!
Point 1 was, in my opinion, due to the Ecclestone/Mosley/Ferrari/Schumacher axis. [A very real 'cake']
Point 2 was, in my opinion, that JPM became aware of Ron Dennis signing Alonso for the following year. [Imagined 'icing'?]
Point 3 was, in my opinion, a passionate reaction which appears to have been due to his own, at least partial, ignorance and/or impatience and/or feeling that Räikkönen was RD's 'favourite'. I believe JPM decided to go whilst being unaware that for 2007, Räikkönen had already signed for Ferrari! Thus, Alonso was not coming in to replace him but Räikkönen! [Partial paranoia?]

Footnote:
Isn't it odd how one's beliefs can form the basis of a future reality, regardless of their intrinsic truths?

I also completely agree with those who have mentioned McLaren's true colours of flame orange.

P.S. It might be worth salivating over the near future when McLaren break formal ties with Mercedes…
;)

2006, because it doesn't look like the cars of today, which look un-natural things on steroids.

Not so sure about that. The ugly front wings, winglets all over the place and grooved tyres made the cars look pretty ridiculous. I'm glad they got rid of all that crap. Now they just need to remove the stepped noses.

Cosi.

Was Alonso not Raikkonens Replacement Rather than JPM? would he not have been his team mate or was Ron shafting him for his young protegé he had been building up?

I like the chrome but that old orange was something special. Incidentally, I think it's the only colour for the McLaren road cars.
