I think we should look at Ismaël Baouf. He’s a 19-year-old Moroccan centre-back who received his first senior cap for the national team in March. He plays for SC Cambuur who finished 2nd in the Eerste Divisie this season and gained automatic promotion to the Eredivisie. He’d be one for the future, a bit like Laalaoui was supposed to be, but he’s really talented. You don’t get called up to the Moroccan national team after a season in the Dutch second tier unless you’re something special.

We could sign a more senior centre-back in addition to him.

Not with the transfer restrictions we were under we couldn’t do any of that. I don’t know about existing bonuses in their contracts with parent clubs but we couldn’t offer any extra above what they’re already on.

We couldn't pay transfer fees or loan fees, there was no restrictions on contracts ( bar them having to green lit by the EFL )

Puerta had good work-rate and attitude but his conditioning wasn’t great, I agree. He’d gas himself out quickly. I think that’s improved after a full season in Spain though. He should be much fitter now.

He had about 13 stamina, that was pretty good. It was his jumping reach and off the ball that he really needed to work on.

Can't even imagine how it will work in the North stand. Does that mean in the seats? The concourse is small and cramped and I don't think there's anything in the way of hospitality areas there. But if it's in the seats where does a speaker go? Very strange.

Still ****e though. Looked out of his depth in the Championship so I don’t know why you want him in the Prem.
I thought goals were quite important?
Young, knows where the onion bag is, maybe a little different to what we currently have, appears to have bought into the squad mentality.
I’m not talking first team or even on the bench, but I think for the right price someone who could be useful in case of injuries.
You don’t agree, that’s fine.

Not necessarily calling any of their respective playing abilities into question however I did sense a slight change in the dressing room dynamic post January transfer window, which Sergey was obviously able to sort out.

When you've got a lad coming in from Man United and another one from Liverpool on loan then it's easy to see how dressing-room expectations would need to be managed.
Yes, following the transfer window, I fully expected us to be challenging for automatics. Not sure what happened.

Koumas is ****e.
Yeah, apart from - coming off the bench to secure 3 points against Blackburn in a game where we were awful;scoring with a lovely header to get us 3 points at Wrexham where otherwise we'd have probably drawn (think about the implications of that), and coming off the bench to score against Derby and secure us 3 points (think about the implications of that too) - what has Lewis Koumas ever done for us?

Adama Diomande scored 3 goals for us last time we were promoted.

I don't think he was good enough for the Premier League either.

He and Yu were brought in to replace Akintola and Ndala, and both were clearly a step up in class and helped to win us points and games at key times. Still not sure that I'd want either in the prem, but they really delivered when it mattered.
