Very common in non urban areas mate where do you live?if they are coming into the towns its a sign either of expansion or a desperate search for food ,im hoping its the former.
On the outskirts of a town surrounded by countryside, if he's come here looking for insects I'd say he's come to the right place.
The most interesting wildlife we usually see here is a red kite who is around very often, saw one doing what looked like training his kids the other day, lots of circling and conversation. One flew 20 feet or so above the house the other day, awesome birds.
We get red kites occasionally. I think they must come down from Gibside for a change of scenery! Fantastic birds to watch.
They are, absolutely massive too. Their call sounds exactly like the one they use in westerns, they might show a bald eagle in them but they don't use its call as it sounds a bit weak and screechy.
I absolutely love seeing red kites and buzzards flying around these days. When I was a kid you never saw either due to the after effects of persecution and DDT.
All our native bats have declined but Pip’s are showing signs of recovery. The one you saw will almost certainly have been a pipestrelle.

On the old mill next to our house they pour out of a small hole just below the gutter
Two people from a bat society came out to count them with clickers.
I think they said if it’s under 250 it’s just a roost over that it’s a breeding site and a lot more restrictions are put on what you can do and not do.
Anyway they stopped counting after 450.

Life is much richer with a thriving ecosystem. The UK's is so depleted and any rewilding / improvement of habitats are great to see.
I'm slowly turning my back garden into a wildlife friendly place. Any new plants I buy have to pollinator approved. I get loads of bees and insects now.
Bird drama this evening. I've previously said that a pair of blackbirds have been building a nest in a bush in my garden. I don't know if it's got eggs in it yet as I don't want to go poking around to have a look.
While I was dishing up our tea, a jackdaw landed on the fence. Both Mr and Mrs Blackbird went absolutely apeshit about it. They chased the jackdaw away and then spent about five mins strutting about yelling their heads off. Even though they're much smaller birds, they're so fiercely protective.
