I was gonna ask the same. When did he say that?
https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/2...mitted Southampton's,that they are not trying.
I was gonna ask the same. When did he say that?
Were those his actual words?
Yeah, the actual quotes of his from the echo were:
"Not a single one of us goes out there and says "I'm not trying today". That's our job. This what we get paid to do. If we're not performing, we have to give 100 percent work rate"
"At the minute, we haven't been doing that. That's the kind of thing we have to drill into the squad. If we're not going to win games, we have to work hard for everyone"
I'm hoping Tonda sets us up completely different tonight.
Not necessarily because I think that will help, but because I think it will be interesting to see if even with a new manager, different tactics and a change in formation, whether we see the same **** we get every week.
I know I'm going to be accused of being a Stephens lover/fanboy/whatever as per; but I just cannot see him downing tools, like I can the likes of Downes. I can see him being a frustrated figure, both at being dropped and the state of the team, but I just don't think he's one to give up & down tools.
If he's been a part of this "RM clique", then I suspect its in his role as captain in voicing concerns & acting as that link from the dressing room to the higher ups (rightly or wrongly, maybe?), but I just can't see a world in which he personally gives up trying to be honest.
Shoot me for having an opinion against the tide![]()
If these shower of ****s put in any sort of performance tonight, I actually think I'll be more annoyed!
It's becoming very clear that certain individuals in the squad think they're in charge of Southampton FC and have the right to dictate staffing, tactics and selection.
A result tonight confirms that they just didn't fancy playing for WS, and they'll have got their own way. Again.
Just like they did for Rusk
Just like they did for Juric.
My wish list for a new manager doesn't include formations, tactics or even necessarily immediate results. It's just someone with enough weight and gravitas that he'll **** certain individuals off to the U21s and have enough power to insist on selling them in Jan. Oh and definitely a new Captain. None of this club and team Captain being separate ****, one leader who cares and actually deserves it.

It's the eyes isn't itJust watched Tonda's interview. He's 100% killed before.

Pretty much agree. The team captain has to lead by example AND lead by being gobby at the crucial momentsI agree with much of this, although I do wonder how many players would it take to make the team play badly, I'm guessing not many. Could be just 2 or 3 bad eggs, id love to see a scrap on the pitch from one of the more commited players and someone who doesn't care anymore.
On your point about the captain, I actually disagree. I just feel that we have recently executed it badly.
The club captain needs to be basically the longest serving player or player who has contributed the most. At the moment that would be Stephens, McCarthy, maybe Armstrong and of course Romeu when he arrives.
The match day captain then needs to be whoever is best suited out of the players that have been selected.
One of our many problems over the last few years is shoehorning the Captain into the squad which is a terrible way to select your players. Stephens could have been selected as the club captain and then last few seasons, we could have had Stephens, Adams, KWP, Armstrong, Lallana etc as the match day captain.
If he was on The Traitors he’s getting banished at the first round table for sure,It's the eyes isn't it![]()
Whilst I wouldn't say Ward-Prowse is the perfect captain, he is leagues above the pathetic options we have now. He wasn't the loudest by you don't get a better professional than him and you know full well he would be giving 100% if he were still here.Pretty much agree. The team captain has to lead by example AND lead by being gobby at the crucial moments
Haven’t had anyone like that for a while
Fonte? Not Prowsey!
