Solutions to the problems at SAFC

  • Sack the head coach, keep the players - it's all down to him

  • Get shot of most of the players - it's their fault

  • Keep the gaffer, he will get it right under the new owner

  • Fans fault (lol, just joking)

  • Armageddon, we are lifetime members of league 1 regardless

  • That's football! Still getting a season ticket

I don't like to blame the players as I think they tried but I highly doubt that more than a couple of them would have been highlighted by the new team as potential signings. They simply weren't good enough and we're going to see a drastic improvement in personnel next season.

I'm happy enough with Johnson and I'd like to see him get a fair crack at it working with the right players. He's not immune from criticism but who is, and he's very young for a manager even if we are turning his hair grey at an impressive rate. He'll be growing a bushy beard next.

I think a few fans need to calm down after the latest kick in the nuts.
KLD has gone to great pains to recruit a team for the short and mid term, not a chance in hell he will have a knee jerk reaction and part company with LJ. As a club we need to stop this constant cycle of when things go t its up we sack the manager. Give the guy the opportunity to recruit his players, I am sick to the stomach about yesterday, but let's look at the bigger picture here. If we are together next season we could storm this god awful division.

Just seen the video where LJ in confronted by some idiots after the game. Interestingly they ask one great question, why bring Flanagan on in the dying minutes. His honest response is 'cos he's tall' sack him just for that.

If Johnson is going, it needs to be quick no messing about, get the new man in instantly

if not ,Johnson and the club need to Move quick and get the players in quick as possible

Pompey
Charlton
Sheffield Wednesday
Ipswich
And Rotherham will all be fighting for the top 2 next season

The players ultimately aren't good enough.

We're still suffering the hangover from a couple of years or neglect from Donald and its going to take a little while longer for the new regime to get things moving forwards again. A massive summer recruitment drive ahead, I really want to see what our ambition looks like. Young, pacey, dynamic players on an upwards trajectory in their careers rather than plodders going the other way.

It remains to be seen whether LJ will be given the bullet. I think he deserves another chance at it but for many fans it seems they've made up their minds with him.

The only problem is LJ won't recruit his own players he is head coach not a manager, so he will coach the first team squad of players that are brought in by the recruitment team.
I'm not entirely sure how much of a say he will have on who comes in.
I can't make my mind up about him to be honest. I get the fact that the squad he had is ****, but the bit I don't get was the likes of yesterday in the first half playing the way we did we would have beaten any team in the league.
To me as a coach Johnson has to have them coming out exactly the same for at least the first 20 minutes, but we didn't and that was down to us sitting back not Lincoln out playing us.
Some people thought we were unlucky yesterday but to by honest Lincoln could have had 4 or 5 in the second half.
All said and done, what ever happens I can't wait for next season, couple of new grounds to try out KTF

I thought LJ looked a worried man. My concern is we bring 10-15 players in and he doesnt get it right.

the 'good' thing is, they won't be his players. LJ needs to mould a team as coach. Sure, he'll have a say in it but they won't be 'his' players.

He's gonna have to get a tune out of them from the off, or he'll be out the door in October. I have moved right onto the fence with him, as his lineups and subs have been way off during our ****e run of form.

You could argue he initially did well getting us to the play offs following on from Parky. He has also got a tune out of Wyke which I honestly thought was impossible. I also think any manager would have struggled with the defensive injuries we have had but to not give Younger a chance was criminal. But inclined to agree with you some of his selctions, tactics (4-2-2-2) and subs have been baffling.
Obviously I want him to do well as it means we are but KLD needs to make a decision and sharpish.

I have a feeling his name will be in the headlines within a week.

100% this, even if hed gone with the senior players like he did, once we blew auto promotion as good as guaranteed playoffs so not even really a risk giving them a try.

not convinced by johnson, hes let some of our young players down.

no disrespect to the likes of younger dan neil, but if they cant get in a crap safc side at league 1 level their not gunna make it here.

been crying out for a CD so 09s energy could go into midfield, look at yesterday 2 midfielders in defence the at one point 3. so if younger at age 21 cant get a place now hes no chance.

our midfield has been ****, weak as piss, again same as above if neil cant get games now.

theres 2 things here from those & likely few more young lads, there never gunna be good enough for sunderland? or johnson has held them back not giving them a go?

what was to be lost giving them a go, nowt. appreciate long time ago bit denis smith walked us out of this division simply recognising it took a blend of senior pros & young lads with energy....have we not already got that now just failed to see & use.

fuxking shambles we fell apart soon as Lincoln.....fuxkng Lincoln attacked us!!!!

big clear out needed, although be very disappointed if 09 goes as his sort of energy & attitude will take us up

anway rant over.....still renewed for next season, felt weird being back yesterday...typical sunderland to let you down when you think were back on

KTF...sunderland till i die

Great post mate, gutted you were let down yesterday, but I am looking forward to to-morrow, the treatment of our u23 team has been a disgrace, the loss of form of Diamond says a lot to me he has been undermined by this fool, and to give him a blank cheque in the transfer market would be suicidal imo. If he shows the same ineptitude as he has shown so far, it will be another melt down at XMAS, and we will be scratching around for a new coach or whatever, at the worst possible time.

Well if Speakmans data-led system is as good as it's bigged up to be, surely it will throw up all of the weaknesses from this season, and primarily the failure of Johnson to complete the job when we were in pole position to top the league. The drop in form since then is unacceptable, and yesterday's first half shows what we were capable of, the fact that he didn't get that tune out of his players for the last couple of months is proof that he's not good enough. I think we can get a better first team coach than LJ.

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/e...dering-sacking-lee-johnson-amid-big-overhaul/

Article this morning suggesting the club are questioning Johnson's position. Whether there's any substance in that I don't know.

Personal opinion is that we'd making the same mistake 3 years running keeping a busted flush and going into a new season with a manager with a noose already round his neck.

The squad rebuild is huge and I think that fresh start requires a new coach to work with KLD and Speakman without a failure hanging over him
