If you go purely on character, I'm quite happy that it was Palace who got Ayew and us who got Ings. (Some talk that the reason why this happened so late for us, is because Palace decided that Ayew would be their one, rather than Ings)

Ayew, having played a part in getting Swansea relegated, duly went on strike and refused to play for them down in the Championship. Top character there...

Ings on the other hand just wants to get back playing football, even if it means joining a smaller club (and, I suspect in due course, a pay-cut).

Also, a snippet from me... JK didn’t want to sell him.

He agreed to let Danny go because he was desperate to be playing again and he wanted to be with us.

Klopp was planning on keeping Ings around the squad up there at the back end of the season. LFC also didn’t go into the market for a striker.

Very popular behind the scenes with both club staff and playing staff.

One of the nicest people in football from my perspective. Would be amazing if it all comes together for him now at the club he supports.

Could be a master stroke if it works out.

Did Charlie and Danny play together at Burnley?

Would be very good to have two familiar strikers together who we’re prolific.

Liverpool journo reporting that there’s a sell on clause when the deal goes permanent.
Not the world beater we all hoped for but he will give his all for us and that’s a start.

Yes, but before Ings "made it". According to wikipedia, the two full seasons they played with each other, Charlie hit over 40 league goals, whilst Ings only scored a total of 6. The following year, after Charlie had left, Ings smashed in 21 to fire Burnley to promotion. By a long, long way his best season in front of goal.

Slightly annoyINGS that I’m guessing because of this quite odd deal (again, I’d guess it’s to do with our finances and possibly speed of deal) that he won’t be able to play/score against Liverpool this season?

Are Saints ever realistically going to sign a world beating Striker?, the nearest we got to it was probably Osvaldo but that turned out ****. Ings is a local lad with a good character who could potentially score roughly 1 in 3 in the PL if he can stay fit.

So we end the transfer window with this as our strongest line up (IMO)

McCarthy
Cedric Yoshida Vestergaard Hoedt Betrand
Lemina Hojbjerg
Armstrong
Ings Austin

Subs : Gunn, Stephens, Targett, Romeu, Elyounoussi, Gabbiadini, Long

I'm hoping that Sparky comes to his senses and ditches 3 CBs, we needed at the end of last season, but we have the personnel to play different formations now.

I've not seen Ings enough to really know much about him. How would you characterise his play?
