It's really hard to characterize his play; he basically hasn't for three years. Used to be fairly quick, but didn't seem terribly so in his few appearances with Liverpool after his knee surgeries.
Thats what I figured. I last saw a game of his back when he was Burnley. He seems like more of a Gabbiadini than an Austin. Runs with the ball more, selfless, creates chances, doesnt bang in goal after goal?
sounds like a great character. I knew from his Burnley days that he did lots of extra charity and community work. I think getting that right dressing room harmony and mix from this summer is almost as important as quality. For whatever reason the harmony in the dressing room has deteriorated over the last few seasons. Hopefully this new squad can regain the positive attitude and hard work which got us nearer the top than the bottom
Biggest positive of getting a local boy in is if we get Pompey in the cup, he'll score 4 goals and take on half the Fratton end. Hero.
I think having such a high turnover of players contributed to that personally but thats a debate for another day.
Remember him giving his boots to a young disabled lad at the side of the pitch after a Burnley game, his character was one of the reasons I was really disappointed he didnt come here from Burnley.
Another plus to signing Ings: we can piss the Bournemouth fans off by singing: "he's one of our own, Danny Ings he's one of our own" at their place. That will not go down well.
Interesting that the couple of 'strongest squads' mentioned so far have no place in the 18 for JWP, after everyone was so desperate to keep hold of him earlier today.
Fair play Saints, a great end to the window! I always knew we would sign Danny one day, pity it wasn’t a few years ago but glad to have him on board finally. In a strange way this feels kind of the reverse of the Rickie Lambert story, except that in Danny’s case returning to his boyhood club won’t be a disappointment.
Most definitely...Jose was a strong influence as well. This has been a relatively quiet summer, so we shall see
Would be really, really awesome if a Southampton lad and a boy who grew up at the club came back, claimed the #9 and started bagging the goals. Rooting for him!
